BioShock

BioShock

Bioshock Retail DVD Working on Windows 10.
Hi.

Like a few of you guys I was gutted I missed out on the free 2k steam key giveaways and I was loathe to buy the game again on Steam. So after digging around I managed to get the game working using the DVD retail copy.

Go to install the game as usual. When you get to the auto-patcher screen and it fails to download either :

A) go into task manager and close the .exe for Bioshock. It should be called 'setup.exe 32-bit' or something similar. Once the installer is closed check your files are present in the install directory.

OR

B) copy the install directory to another location. Close the installer and copy the directory back again.

If you don't do one of these actions and cancel the auto-patcher all the game install files will be deleted.

Now go to http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/gamefixes/bioshock.shtml and get the v1.1 no-dvd crack.

Download Bioshock patch v1.1 and install it. If your game files are on another drive place the patch onto the root directory of the drive and install. I got an error during the patch install but at the end I got the success box. I am not sure if this will have any affect on the game. If you don't want to patch the game just download the v1 no-dvd crack instead and skip this part.

In the Bioshock install directory replace the bioshock.exe with the bioshock.exe from the no-dvd crack.

If you have an onboard realtek soundcard go to the old style windows control panel. Go to sounds>change system sounds>recording tab>right click stereo mix>enable.

Sound should now be fixed.

To start the game just double click the Bioshock.exe in the Bioshock game directory.

Please tell me if it works for you.

PS - I also followed this prior to the install but I don't think it matters.

Cheers.
