Bioshock retail key owner, any hope for the remaster?
Hi all,

Has there been any word on redeeming remastered copies of Bioshock from retail keys? I bought the game at launch, even splashing out on the Limited Edition to get the sweet Big Daddy figurine, and it seems like a bit of a kick in the teeth that I won't be able to claim the remastered version because I bought the game before it was on Steam. If no official statement has been issued, is there an official email address I can write to to get an an answer or bring it to 2k's attention? I can provide photographic evidence of the steel game case and figurine if required.

It'll go by what's on your Steam account. If you don't own on Steam then you won't recieve remaster.

Do we get to keep the original version, or will the upgrade replace it entirely?

Most likely will be a seperate entry so we'll have both new and old version. That's usually the case on Steam. We'll have to wait and see though.

Maybe you can contact 2K on twitter.

If it's gonna be like Darksiders II, then we'll have two versions in our library.

Doesn't work, it isn't a Steam key. I'll pester 2K on Twitter and see what they say.

i dont know about bioshock but you can activate the retail version of bioshock 2 on steam so if you have the key for either it might be a good idea to try them out. also when you activate bioshock 2 on steam you also get all of the dlcs for the game this means you should be entitled to the free upgrade.

BioShock 1 keys doesn't work on Steam, but BioShock 2 keys does, even if they GFWL keys. Since the game goes to SteamWorks for everyone who bought on Steam and extra they got the DLC too. 2K did this because the GFWL no longer supported and everyone who bought it has the right to get the updated version.
I would say pick up the first one on sale. A game like this deserve it and worth it.

Let me know if it works. I bought a physical version of Bioshock and my key doesn't work on Steam either. I'm hoping that I can get a key on Steam somehow. I still have everything in my boxed copy including a legitimate activation key if they want proof.

To be honest, I loved Bioshock 1 more than the others and that's why I really care about getting a remastered edition for it.

Same here, BioShock 1 was one of the first games I played after building my first PC and I still love it. I've opened a support ticket to 2k and will post here if/when I get a response.

I've just gotten a reply from 2k support

They are willing to provided you with a steam key for Bioshock 1 provided you can prove you own the retail version of the game.

Anyways hope this helps.

This is the response[imgur.com] I got from 2K support, really nice to get quick responses like this. It details the steps needed to get a Steam key from your retail copy of BioShock.
