bite indicator not working

I started bottom feeding and i attached the bell as a bite indicator to let me know when i catch a fish as I want to do something on another screen. But for some reason even if a fish bites the bell doesnt ring no matter what. I tried other bite indicators as well none of them work.

Bell works when the rod is on a rod stand. put it on the stand then press Y to bring your line tight.

But idk if they game will play audio while not focused. May need to check audio settings for that

Mine don't seem to ever work when its not in a stand.
