My leader was instantly cut while trolling
I just started using my new rig with a 17.4kg fluoro leader and it was cut before I even knew I had a fish. The rod didn't even move and it said the rig was cut. I couldn't believe it. This happened first on Volk and I assumed It was just more dangerous to fish there. It being my first time at Volk, I left and went back to Kuori. I've never lost a leader to a pike in 30 hours of fishing Kuori with my 11.6kg fluoro leaders. Within 20 mins the same thing happened on the same rig and leader setup. Rod didn't move and it happened so fast I didn't know I had a fish on. Is this just bad luck and a rare occurrence or am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be appreciated.

You are using lures (large spoons?) that are attracting big pike. I would switch it up to a small spinner or something for Kuori. As soon as you can, craft 27.7kg leaders. I still use the 4g and 7g akkila spinners, and I never got a pike over 2kg on them.

While i agree with that alot of peoples would disagree because when you use a 27kg+ leader you already should have 28kg+ reel....because leader should always be the weakest thing in your equip

Experienced it myself.
Had the friction break even a bit lower than i use on land, but the line torn straight off without even the line going out at all ?

So I actually am using a 36kg rod with the hsv reel, which I upgraded to 17kg max drag. I think I can actually use a 27kg leader and I should be ok. The problem I have now is the fluoro components only go up to 20kg. If I buy regular line and use it for leader material then I'm not sure how to get to get it to be weaker then my main line. Not to mention the fact that I don't know where the leader swivel load capacity fits in to all this. it's so confusing and nearly impossible to find good info on this. I just want to fish salmon at volk. I'm not even sure I should be using braid for my main line and if that's lowering my bite rate. I have so many question lol.

The swivels is what you need to make the specific leaders....like you use swivel 15kg-20kg and use a 17kg line as material the leader will be 17kg.
And Fluoro goes higher than 20kg just look in shop click on lines than on fluorocarbon all lines he will show than is fluoro even the "powercarbon" which goes up to 60kg or something like that so you can make 27kg fluoro leaders

always have your leader above your like so pike cant bite through it I have a done this and caught many pike and I have not lost a lure egg 15kg rod 9kg reel 6kg line and 6.2kg leader

With a 6,2kg leader you were just lucky that pike didnt bite through it yet....and it has nothing to with making leader a little bit higher than main line because pike can bit through leaders up to like 20kg....the only leaders which they cant bite through at lower lvl is steel leader

it depends on the lake (what fush are available) on what size leader you should use to minimize lost leaders / gear.

For example...
Kuori - 19kg (pike)
Volkhov - 27kg (bigger piker)
Archi - 27kg minimum (Have had 27-55kg fluoro cut off by fush teeth).

Those are my personal experience. Each lake has their own size depending on pike but smaller leaders will have a chance of getting cut depending on the fush in that lake. Something you will have to experiment with and get a feel for.

Does depend where you fish because pike are normally in certain areas like fallen logs/trees, reeds and shallow snaggy areas.

From personal experience i used steel leader until i moved to kuori lake because when you get to kuori it's a must but i use 27.7kg fluro leader on kuori and never been bitten through.

Where as on volkhov i changed to 19.1kg fluro leader and it got bitten off so as section8 said them pike sizes are right and should always take precaution in where ur fishing to prevent it
