I am offeren to use Steam but it gives the error invalid characters. At this stage I have the game for a week and cannot play it.

Bro you litteraly have a flower in your Steam Username

Thats why the Steam one doesnt work I would say.

You should still be able to pick a name, however, it might be worth trying to remove the flower from your Steam name to see if it let's you proceed. You can always change your Steam name back once you have a game account.

I am having the same issue with invalid name. It doesn't seem to matter what I type it always gives an "invalid character error"
