rod too close to other one

Now got 2 rods but can't use both at same time as keeps saying the above!

Isn't it obvious enough,
keep the one you holding in backpack,
to pick the rod up, place it further away, or to keep.
or
simply ' you ' can't try to place the one you are holding, directly over the one lying on the ground, as it will try to place ' upon ' picking up .

Move away from the one on the ground, and press ' Quick Slot number '.

I was playing on the pier and I had to leave one rod behind me to access the other one. Presumably to have 2 rods in use i need to have them in a different area of the lake?

no, they can be side by side... just not on top of eachother or too close to the edge of the water or pier
