Isn't ths game about relaxed fishing in a nice, rather roleplay-influenced athmosphere? No need at all to break records, play through the game at high speed and strive to, yes, to what, in fact?
Just enjoy casual fishing, work yourself slowly up the ladder and explore some side-activities and be happy about the occasional bigger catch on starter gear that you manage to reel in because of your game-experience rather than your Gold. And do not compare yourself to others, apart from competitions.
I (Level 10 atm) do not pay any real money for being faster, getting better gear where I can't afford the repair cost, etc. Instead I always light my campfire at the end of a session, boil some eggs, prepare one dried fish from the smallest catch I could usse for this, dig for worms, and just enjoy the athmosphere. I know it is cheaper to buy worms in the shop or grab them at the startup lake, but where is the fun of it?
I like it a lot.
And btw: With 50 worms you can, even at the two low level waters, easily earn 50Silver, normally more. How to d othis...well, you do not want us to deliver spoilers, do you? The fun here is in exploration and fishing. If you want to become rich, play Monopoly.
Keep in mind: If you buy expensive equipment for real money you will also very soon run into very expensive repairs, which will force you to pay real money again, since you cannot afford it with your silver. THAT is the real trick here. And it works. I have been game administrator at an online wargame (which I am not going to name) and I know what insane amounts of money are spent by some players, just to buy themselves an advantage over others. And I have seen the amount of effort on cheating, some players undertake. Since then I do not give a s*** on in-game competitions and rankings.
My advice is to really enjoy your own forthcoming and achievements you unlock and do not look on others. And if you feel like supporting the game, there is nothing wrong with buying some gold or DLC, but do it only to the degree you would use to play bingo. Do not make this part of your career plan!
