Research bug?
Ive heard about this bug but do not fully know what it is. Can someone please explain it to me in detail. I love the X-com series and have been try to beat TFTD forever and usually get pissed and quit.

If you research a Tasoth commander, you can't beat the game. If you research a live deep one BEFORE you've researched Ion beam accelerators, the research is wasted, you'll have to get a new one. If you research Transmission resolver WITHOUT sub construction in your stores, you CANNOT research it, effectively stalling the game. If you research a live terrorist without having an MC reader in your stores, you cannot research it, thus rendering MC attacks unavalible to you. You can still beat the game though.
That's most likely the more important ones, and the ones I can think of of the top of my head.
If you get the Xcomutil it has an option to fix these issues so you won't have to worry about them, I'd recommend doing so.

Thanks. Thats better than anything I could find anywhere. Im getting pretty bored with the game as usual. It seems to take forever. All the live alien research hasnt been giving anything new. ive done all the aliens I have. Now they all are repeats. Anything new to come?
The only live aliens you really "need" to research is a navigator of any kind for transmission resolver, a live deep one for ion armor + better subs, a lobsterman navigator for story research and sub and then a lobsterman commander for story research. All the others are mostly just lore research, apart from a few, but they're not critical to the game.
If you're getting bored, maybe TFTD isn't for you, it can be slow at times if you don't know exactly what you're doing, and due to some levels slowing to a crawl up top. Anything new ? That's hard to say, depends how far into the game you are, what your tech progression is and how good you are at the game. It technically goes on forever, until you decide to finish it.

If you have the leviathan, you're able to beat it at any moment. Sadly, the final missions leave a bit to be desired.

I do have the leviathan. But how does that let me beat the game? I have only beat 6 out of the 12 activity sites, and I thought throught the research that you needed to destroy all twelve.
You don't have to beat any artefact sites, at all. All you need to do is reseach alien origins -> Lobsterman Navigator -> Ultimate Threat -> Lobsterman Commander -> T'leth, and Mag Ion Armor & sub construction -> Manta -> Hammerhead -> Lobsterman Commander -> Leviathan.
The reason having the leviathan makes you able to beat it, is because researching a commander is required to be able to make that too, so if you played it right, both T'leth and Leviathan are avaliable at the same time.

I must be missing something completely. T'leth is in the deepest cravasse in the Caribbean and I do have the leviathan. But I dont see where or how I am to find the City of T'leth or whatever. I truly just want to beat this game. I have loved this series and beat all the other ones. This has just been a thorn in my side because I havent actually won it!

Oh my GOD! I am such an idiot. I didn't see the T'leth destination! holy balls! I have been playing for like months in the game that were unnecessary.

Thanks for the info. What a relief to finally have this one complete. Now to move onto the Xbox game. Have you played that yet?
Well derp! But good to know, would have sucked had you screwed up the research so it was unbeatable by accident.

The Xbox one ? Unless you mean XCom : Enemy Unknown, that came out in 2012, then I don't know which one that is. If that is the one you mean, it's on PC too. If so, then yes I have.

@{NLR} C´est Moi ;D - What are you referring to for "If you get the Xcomutil it has an option to fix these issues so you won't have to worry about them, I'd recommend doing so.." i have run into so many glitches in terror from the deep it is unreal and was looking for a way to resolve them.

There's a feature in the program that'll check between every battlescape -> geoscape transition if you should be able to research MC Reader, Sub Construction and/or Aquaplastics, but didn't have the materials at the time. For example, if you've researched Zirbite and Transmission resolver, but didn't have a Sub Construction in your inventory, you'd normally be screwed. XcomUtil will check for this, if you've told it to, and try to fix it for you so that you can research it.

"If you research a live terrorist without having an MC reader in your stores, you cannot research it, thus rendering MC attacks unavalible to you. "

Are you sure? I think the issue with MC was that you cannot research the MC Lab until you got an MC reader in your hands. Since you need to interrogate a terrorist before the MC reader item will start to drop from the aliens.

Otherwise, excellent post very useful. Please double check on what I'm saying as well I'm only 90% sure
