X-COM: Terror from the Deep

X-COM: Terror from the Deep

No noticeable progress after 50 hours.
Let me ask you a question. I now have about 50 hours on my savegame and have encountered exactly 100 UFOs. I've smoked out a few bases, etc. Now it feels like everything has come to a bit of a standstill. I haven't been able to research for a while and I've always captured lots of living aliens after battles, but none of them can be interrogated. Is this normal, or do I have a research bug? By the way, I use “OpenXcom” to play. At the moment I have no option to research or rebuild alien submarines, but I already have “Alien Submarine Construction”. I mean what surprised me. I've only recently come across these “Xintfish” and so far I haven't seen these “Bio-Drones” at all. I only found out about them from a doctor. Is this perhaps the normal process after all? In the beginning, some research also came to nothing. In other words, the research was said to be complete, but there was nothing to look at or read.

not enough info. Refer to the research tree.

Most likely, you have not been fighting lobsters much. You need a Lobster navigator, Lobster commander, or Gill man commander in order to advance towards the final mission.

Not being able to craft craft most likely results from not having a deep one terrorist. They generally will appear in the early game, when it is difficult to capture them. They only appear in Gillman terror mission types, so if you are not fighting those, or you didn't get a Gill Man terror, you wouldn't be able to get any.

The ships in this game are USO's, because they're in the waters and usually not flying in the air.

Im fighting 80% lobsters and my prison is full of them. More than 100! I was reading some "Ufopedia" before and I think I need a living "Deep One", so I can get to "Ion Armour". I never cought one of them I think. Can that be the case? They are rly rare. I only have a dead one! I allready have researched "Magnetic Navigation" but not "Ion Armor".

EDIT: So for me it's definitely down to this living “Deep One”. The only problem is that I haven't gotten any land/ship or other terror missions for 20-30 hours. I don't understand why they just don't happen anymore. On the one hand they offer variety, on the other hand it can't be that it's essential to catch one of these “Deep One” alive and then they only appear in the early game. At the moment I have demolished all my “M.C. Generators” and let them attack my base in order to encounter land units. The game design is not well thought out, sry.

Terror missions occur every in game month. If you want in game time to pass faster, then don't fight unnecessary battles, and put geoscape time on fastest. Don't shoot down ships on terror missions if you are, that would prevent them from landing.

Um, get rid of live aliens that you can't research, there's no point in holding them.

Lobster Engineer is the missing component. Seen it happen time and again.

No it wasn't. It was the “Deep One”.

If you missed out on the live deep one in the early months, you'll have a rough time, as their appearance rates drop significantly. Not sure what month you're on, but for terror sites after the first three months is 30% for gillmen, in October and onwards, it's only a 20% chance for gillmen. Also don't shoot down "surface attack" USO's, they're responsible for terror sites, so you might have been preventing them by shooting them down.

You can hope you'll get a floating base attack from gillmen, since deep ones will be included (don't shoot down their scouts)

Just a matter of time until either happens.

Edit: Oh this is an old thread. Oh well, still applies if someone else runs into the same problem

As you've already written, here's my solution, which I did and which worked really well:

I had saved a few days or hours before the end of the month and looked at what I got at the beginning of the new month. If it was one of those colony attacks or raids, I reloaded until it was a terror attack. IF it was one, I saved (seperatly) and flew there on the fly to see if it was with “Gillmen”. If not, I reloaded again until before the end of the month. The crew is always the same if you only load the moment the terror attack appears! When it was a “Gillmen” crew, I loadet (the second) savegame, took my time to prepare and captured half a dozen “Deep Ones” in this mission.

The absolutely important thing here is and I don't know if it works without the “OpenXcom” mod. You must activate the option for this RNG to be rolled each time. This is known to work in battles. But it also works on the world map. Otherwise you always have the same event at the beginning of the month.

This was a huge issue in the original TFTD too. It became kind of infamous actually, and pretty much every strategy guide tells you to capture a deep one no matter what the cost the first time you see them.

I don't look into strategy guides until I rly need them so.
