World of Terrifying Silence help please!

Hello! I'm not very good with computers. I sort of know what I'm doing, but I don't understand a lot of the stuff involved with downloading and installing mods for TFTD. Could somebody please give me a step-by-step guide for dummies on how to get and install OpenXCOM Extended and World of Terrifying Silence? I found some websites, but they seem to assume you kind of know what you're doing, lol.

It's 2 lines below the red version number.

Tell the installer where your TFD folder is and where you want OXCE installed.

Your TFD folder will be in Steam/ steamapps/ common/ TFD

Run the OXCE .exe.

I don't have TFD, so I'm not entirely sure, but after running the OXCE your TFD folder should now have a mods folder. This will be where you put the TWoTS mod and any other mods you may want.

Once in game go to the mods tab and enable your mods.

Also for anyone who has played this mod, how do you get pilots to assign to fighter craft?

edit: nevermind, I figured it out. But how do you unlock Gauss research in this mod?

Middle-clicking in OXCE will bring up all sorts of information (i.e. alien info, weapon info, etc.). In the research screen, it gives you information about what a topic leads to. If you press 'q' when already looking at a topic, you can search the entire tech tree.

I believe in TWoTS, you need Magnetic Navigation to get gauss weapons.
