Can't start the game

Hey! I'm stuck at the point where it says "Press -" I can't press anything and have it work

If you've tried pressing Start on your controller / Enter on your keyboard and you still can't get past the title screen, you probably have a corrupted save file.

Save File Folder Location
C:\Users\This is your name\AppData\LocalLow\Sabotage Studio\The Messenger

Replace SaveGame.txt with this file.

What did you do to figure this out? I'm having this issue as well. Never played the game, installed it twice, same issue. There was no save file in the folder (as I've never been able to start a game), I added the dev save file into the folder and still doesn't let me press anything.

Well I just couldn't figure out what button to start it, but it turns out it's just enter. I pressed that and it started great! (Just a silly move on my part, I wasn't having any technical errors apparently. Sorry!)

And you have the developer's SaveGame.txt, and you still can't progress?

Yes, when I tried that save game fix, it looked just like that. I uninstalled again after that out of frustration lol. Still couldn't activate anything on the start menu, I can skip the intro movie with the enter key however.

Directly from the Xbox app (the new one, currently in beta).
And then many times from the shortcut which I created on my desktop.

I believe it is similar to an issue which I had last month ( https://www.resetera.com/threads/pc-gaming-era-may-2019-romance-of-the-three-storefronts.114434/page-41#post-20772631 ).

Basically, when you start a game for the first time, there is usually a window asking for your consent to let the game access your profile data, and if this window does not appear (due to some bug?), then the game is stuck on the loading screen (before the main menu even appears).

Sadly, there is no simple way to force this window to appear again. The last time, I used a brutal solution (I removed all the apps, which took a long time, from the powershell). This time, I have tried to be more subtle (only the Xbox app), but it has not worked so far.

This page allows one to check some of the apps previously authorized by the user:

For instance, I have seen that window and accepted it for Everspace, and the game appears on there.

I am having the EXACT same problem. The game opens that image and nothing happens.

I just got the Game Pass to test some games and The Messenger was the first one that i choose to download and i already having problems... oh boy...

I'm having the same problem.
Also I noted that is the only game that doesnt show a icon at the side bar.

If anyone knows how to fix, please tell us. Thanks!

I have the same icon issue. However, the icon may not be linked to the launch issue: Book of Demons is also missing the icon, but starts fine and is playable.

Hi Messengers!

Yeah we are looking into this issue. So far we where not able to reproduce it on our side. The Consent Access Pop Up will always show up when we refuse it or cancel it.

Like said on a post above, it could maybe be a bug with the xbox app. We will check with Microsoft if something has to be done on our side or wait for a fix from them.
