CRT Scanlines Effect - Reshade

If anyones interested theres a way to add a subtle CRT scanline effect to this game using Reshade. I find it compliments the 8/16-bit style quite nicely.

For the uninitiated, its pretty straight forward;

1. Download Reshade from here:
https://reshade.me/

2. Run Reshade setup and when prompted, navigate to The Messenger install directory and choose 'TheMessenger.exe'.

3. Then choose the Rendering API. You have three different choices, in this case you should choose 'Direct3D 10+'.

4. You will be faced with a prompt asking if "...you wish to download a collection of standard effects...", to which you should say 'yes'.

5. Once the download completes you'll be asked which "...effect files you want to install". Click the 'Uncheck all' button and choose only "CRT.fx". Then click 'OK'.

6. Now it should be installed. Just to be sure, you should see up in the top left of the dialogue box, something along the lines of "Installing to The Messenger ... Succeeded!". At this point you can close the Reshade setup dialogue box completely.

7. Go ahead and start the game up. You'll notice up the top of the screen theres a grey panel with information regarding Reshade. Go ahead and press Shift+F2 to access the Reshade settings.

8. It will attempt to guide you through a first run tutorial, which you should follow. Though all you need to do here is create a preset by clicking '+', so give it name like for instance "scanlines". This will create a file in your game directory named whatever you called it, so in this case it would be 'scanlines.ini'. We'll come back to this newly created file in a moment.

9. Next goto the Reshade settings tab and change "usage mode" via the dropdown menu from 'Configuration mode' to 'Performance mode'. Once you've done that, go out of the Reshade menu and exit the game.

10. Navigate to your game directory and locate the .ini file created by Reshade (in this case it would be 'scanlines.ini') and open it with any text editor like for instance, notepad.

11. Copy and paste these lines into the .ini file and save it;

12. All done. You should now have a subtle scanline effect. Enjoy!

If you want to install it on other 2D games, just run the Reshade setup again.
