As with all these Choice-of-Games games, whether you'll like it or not depends mostly upon interest in the premise and the writing talent of the author. As usual, there's a demo that can give you enough of both to let you see whether you'll be interested in shelling out for more.

As far as the premise goes... I'm just left wondering why on earth nobody did this sooner?! There's a glut of superhero and D&D-type Choice-of-Games, but while there's a few (quite good, as well) Jules Verne/steampunk-flavored games out there, just straight-up going for the foppery of the old British upper class is virgin territory. Playing as an impossibly talented and dedicated butler or maid trying to save an utter wastrel from themselves wasn't something I'd thought I'd needed until I knew it existed, but now I can't live without it.

So far as the writing goes, it clearly takes its digs at the era, but without getting into overtly acerbic territory. It's lighthearted comedic fair, and while it has some moments of it (character speech is era-appropriate, but the narration is more modern casual), the text lacks consistent flourishes of supersilious wit more of the purple prose of the era might have. Whether that's good or bad is up to you, since intentional loquciousness would undoubtably unnerve some readers, but it feels to me like a missed opportunity to spice up the more obviously comedic passages with some of the language of the penny dreadfuls that would help set the mood of the entire genre this game plays up as its setting.

As a butler or maid, you are a member of the most-definitely-not-invisible servantry. To attain that prestigious post, you naturally have a background in some presumably vastly more lucrative field that logic would imply requires more skilled training than mopping the floors, such as art gallery curator, professional boxer, lion tamer, or international jewel thief. This informal training is just barely enough to qualify you for your baseline duties as a member of the servantry, such as cooking, cleaning, tutoring your master and their family's young ones, backtalking your master and his/her guests, fisticuffs with ruffians, sabotaging police investigations, jailbreaking, assuming control over police investigations in spite of being a vigilante, participating in espionage on behalf of an international housekeeping syndicate, directly controlling the fate of your employer's dynasty, and participating in contests in quaint county fairs.

Please be advised that it is frowned upon in upright, dignified upperclass families of the era for a a gentleman's gentleman or lady's lady to seduce their same-sex employer, or to steal their fiance out from under their noses, but for gentlemen and ladies of extraordinary talent and poise (you get a 'score' stat for succeeding at skill checks that are required for some endings), some eyes may wind up turned.

I enjoyed this game so much that I am now physically in pain. During the game I nearly scalded the inside of my nostrils with the tea that I was unfortunate enough to be drinking when I snorted with laughter, and grinned so much that my cheeks actually hurt. I love all of the characters, especially Rory, the sweetest idiot I have ever seen. The second person narration is handled exceptionally well; although there is to some extent a pre-established character which I sometimes find constraining and irritating, the choices available to personalise them while also retaining the general flavour of the setting and I found myself loving Waverly as much as all the others.

I heartily recommend this, just don't try to eat or drink while you play. It won't end well.

If Oscar Wilde wrote an absurdist dating sim, it would probably turn out like this.

If Wes Anderson ever made a text-based choose your own adventure game, I imagine it would look a lot like this.

Rather enjoyable CoG, especially when on sale. It's got fun characters for the most part and hilarious dialogue.

What I didn't like and what kept me from replaying it was the unpredictability of the skill system. It was hard to tell at times how my skills and traits were impacted by the choices I made and how those in turn determined the outcome of my choices. Often times I felt like the outcome was purely based on luck since I had no way to guess which skill was important there or if you would always get the same result picking that option. Random choices would add or remove points in a way that was too frustrating for me personally. Maybe I'm just spoiled from other CoG which are more straight-forward. Or I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to stuff like that.

Despite that I had lots of fun with some of the ridiculous dialogues in this game and the humor in general. Don't think there's a CoG that made me laugh out loud as much as TH did.

If you're interested in the setting, playing as a maid, fun characters and dialogue, I'd definitely still recommend this game.

I love Wooster and Jeeves. Have many of the books, have the movies, and the DVDs. Even made a Jeeves for Sims 4. And while I enjoyed the setting I found the game somewhat frustrating. I would try to do something and fail. I would try to do something completely different and fail. I would try out a different character and fail. I would try to stay out of trouble and get arrested. I would try to focus on one character to be romantic with and....got arrested? Choices don't seem to matter or made the story go in a whole other direction. Many events and outcomes seemed random. After many times playing it I found myself NOT wishing to play it again. Also the humor. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it...did something. The game was meant to be like the writing of P.G. Wodehouse but came out like a badly written fan fiction. Like so many authors who tried to copy Lovecraft or H.G. Wells. Sometimes it worked but most of the time it failed.

This reads like a comedy drama set in the Jeeves & Wooster novels written by PG Wodehouse and succeeds admirably. The first scene in the game establishes the kind of butler the player wants to be, which is interesting, and having watched Jeeves & Wooster on youtube is quite close to a scene from the first episode of the TV series starring Steven Fry & Hugh Laurie. Of course I have read PG Wodehouse's books, which can be found at project Gutenberg, but the literary characters are forever seared in the rather adequate creations of Steven Fry & Hugh Laurie. Having watched a number of silver screen butlers from the 1930's, frankly, this is probably for the best.

Tally Ho is a comedy, there are elements of pathos but they are filtered through the "twee" sentimentality of the setting and with perhaps one or two exceptions it captures the feel of a PG Wodehouse novel that you can actually interact with. Quite recommend it really.

I just finished my first playthrough of this game along with a number of friends and we had an ABSOLUTE BLAST. I cannot tell you enough how much fun it was. If you like these sorts of games at all, be sure to pick up Tally Ho, no questions asked. Also, for the price, it's a steal. It's VERY LONG, and has tremendous replay value. Two thumbs up. More if I had them!

I cant Not Recommend this game. It's price is fair and the content it delivers is as promised. Its of fair length as these sorts of games go and well written.
That said be advised of a few things. 1. most of the comedy in this story comes at your expense. Wrong choice = bad but funny things happening to your character. 2. Choices are often unintuitive, or down right blind guessing (i'd offer examples but that would be spoilering so I wont, have to take my word for it or try it for yourself.) 3. It seems like every choice matters, which should be rewarding, but So far all it seems to do is close off pathes. With no save option, 1 bad choice means playing the rest of the way through knowing your not going to get where you want, or starting all over again. Combined with how hard it is to figure out which is the right choice this leads to alot of restarting and randomly choosing until you get the pass (checking stats and npc relationships if the results are not immediately obvious.) This is particularly annoying if the mistake is made middle to late in the game.
Its quiet possible you might play through the first time and luck into an ending that pleases you. YMMV

This game is hilarious. It's a very silly Downton Abbey-type spoof. I had a great time being aggressively whimsical without having to worry that my choices may lead to the fall of the British Empire or anything. The low-stakes nature of this goofy narrative is freeing. The game also alluded to other paths I could have taken with the story-- the replayability looks promising. That said, I had no idea what skills I was building with my choices, but I had too much fun to worry about that.

10/10 ridiculous stars
