Grandchildren and other relations
It feels weird to have a party where a grandchild can fall in love with a grandparent (if they are both recruited as legacy heroes in a campaign). Aunts, uncles, etc. are also a bit odd in this regard. Am I the only one who just wants to keep growing generations but doesn't want them all intermarried in weird ways??

Yeesh ... is that possible? That's ... uncomfortable.

I've only got a one or two family chains that extend long enough for grandchildren and I don't think I've ever had grandparents and grandchildren together in the same group all Legacy characters.

Pretty sure the original design of the family hierarchy is already kind of over-taxed, but that sounds like something that would be worth revising it a bit.

You're def not the only one who'd want that. One of the biggest draws for me in this game is the family relations. I haven't played that far yet I guess because I've only ever had two children appear, but if later generations behave like you say that really is not something I would want to see. That's a pretty big yikes.

I know even in a game like Sims 2 by default great-grandparents and great-grandchildren do not recognise each other as family, which can lead to some weird and uncomfortable situations when sims become vampires or use elixir of life and end up seeing their great grandchildren grow to adulthood. Thankfully is a mod that makes sims recognise each other as family in these situations.

Family of any sort definitely isn't supposed to be able to become lovers. Everything other than parents, children, and siblings we just store as "family", and if they're not appearing that way (with "Family" listed next to them in the relationships tab), that's a bug. If you want to send us your legacy (F11 in game) along with a description of which heroes this happened to, we could take a look.

Thanks!
I deleted my few third-gen legacy characters, but I will try to reproduce the problem (pun slightly intended) with aunts-cousins-grandparents-etc and send it along whenever I can get it to happen. If there is a generic family marker, I have yet to see it!

This is why I keep children turned off, lock relationships, and have a mod to increase retirement age.

Hm. Never had that happen. I've got a couple of families that go 6 or 7 generations with no questionable relationships. I thought a couple of distant cousins got together but can't find them at the moment.

What I'm really curious about is why some of the children of a set of parents have the father's surname and some from the same parent have the mother's surname. Doesn't bother me, but I am curious.

I've only had two children spawn so far and both took the father's surname despite neither couple being married at the time the child would have been born (one couple married during the same years of peace after which their daughter joined the party, but she was 24 and it had been 10 years of peace; the other couple never married). I had assumed based on this sample size of two that all children take the father's name regardless, but perhaps it's a 50/50 coin flip.

I've had children take the mother's name, so ... yeah, I think it's (essentially) a coin flip.

I have a character with 2 children and 1 grandchild, I don't see any family in the relationship screen when picking from legacy when starting the game. Do they need to be in the game together to see it?

Yep, it only shows up once you have them in-game with each other, I believe.

Closest I've seen to this is just adults who are somehow the same age as their children.

There is at least one event that'll freeze a character's age.

This is Melbeld, he was 40 at the end of his last campaign: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2784571789

This is his daughter Eena, she was born during that same campaign (when Melbeld was at least in his 20's) she's 58: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2784571506

Same campaign, but Melbeld got the event that froze his age, and she didn't.

(And this is Tembryn, Eena's mother and Melbeld's spouse, again, from the same campaign, she's 90: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2784571287 )

Once you have a bunch of legacy players it's not too difficult. I one time deliberately created a few campaigns with a mother, daughter, and granddaughter as the three starting characters. They all start out at about the same age, which is sort of amusing.

It's myth.

Apparently, half-step-children are considered family, which they shouldn't imo.
