Saving the Townsfolk rewards?

So, I just finished the 3rd (2nd?) chapter of the 3rd campaign (on Tragic Hero difficulty). And when I started the chapter, there were 37 townsfolk alive at the main quest. I ran through the chapter grid splitting up my teams and trying to level them up a bit (with 2 simultaneous incursions) buying the 15 days at the Thrixl outposts. When I arrived at the final battle, 25 were still alive and I had the choice to split up and save 5 more, which I did .

Now, I finished the battle with 30 townsfolk alive, but I got 1 reward (out of 4). What did I do wrong and how could you ever make it in time without getting slaughtered with your under leveled band of misfits? 30 out of 37 should be a minimum of 3 rewards if my math is right..

Other than this mishap, I'm having a lot of fun so far with the game! I'm trying to hold of modding it till I finish the main campaign, but I can see this going into FTL Captain's Edition modding territory (which increased the content of that game to about 300%).

You can end up with more Townsfolk alive than you start with if you work quickly enough while also clearing some of the optional areas. I think to get 4/4 you need somewhere around 51 survivers

Mmmm, alright thanks =) Weird that I started with 37 then..

That's how many are projected 5o survive, not how many are alive right then :) it can go back up as you clear Thrixl tiles, but 51 or so is the max, I believe.

Aaaah, I see =) Still odd that I only got 1 reward for 30 then, but oh well. I'll try harder next time \m/

Only Thrixl tiles matter. It will tell you if its a thrixl tile if it's infested. The rewards aren't that special, and patrolling isn't counted as clearing.

Rewards aren't special? Ok good, because I had a severe case of FOMO =D

Just finished the 4th campaign, that final battle was epic.

I have tried this Chapter several time and what happens is number of villagers go down to 25 (because I am recruiting) and when I clear Thrixl titles it still stays at 25...
And I finish the chapter freeing only 25 even if I have cleared all the tiles

Any ideas what goes on ?
