That being said, there are a few artifacts that do have elemental effects - however those are always strictly better then the simple elemental versions. So they are already pretty powerfull.
On top artifact weapons have one extra feature - you can sacrifice a artifact to not take any lasting damage during a mortal choice.
I agree, some Artifacts are very strong. But most don't have the added Stunt effects like with the Elements. I typically don't take Artifacts when I'm rocking an ideal Element on my weapon. Stunting just for extra damage is less useful & situational than the elements and their utility. I guess my main desire is to add something like or related to elements to Artifact Stunts, because right now it feels like they have less impact than the basic weapon Element Stunts. A Tier 1 Fire weapon will still devastate a room of enemies. And I can craft that at any moment in the game. The Artifacts take more work and luck to acquire, the payoff should be multitudes higher than the weapons anyone can craft.
The extra feature is pretty cool. But this is a defensive ability, an ability that triggers because the weapon wasn't powerful enough to defeat your enemies, typically. The fact that it's a global passive for all artifacts is awesome. But maybe this should be a perk only for some (like only for artifact shields) while others get varied stunt/offensive capabilities? The element powers are really well done, maybe some new elements exclusive to artifacts would work well. It feels like something big is missing when Stunting with an Artifact without an element. As if you missed out on an opportunity to gain an action or health when you need it.
