I wrote a recommendation which you can run via Google translator: https://steamcommunity.com/id/angelhorn/recommended/763890/
I consider it an indie diamond find. I love XCOM and Fire Emblem and Wildermyth keeps the battles very similar simple yet challenging and therefore interesting.
There are not infinite stories, but a sheer number of countless routes how a campaign can turn out wholly depending on your choices and what characters you have in your party.
Technically you can make your entirely own custom party one way or another. I am saying technically here since you can also get randomised characters into your party, which you then customise.
So far I have spent around 40 hours for four of five very well written campaigns and I plan to replay them after. Plus there are some more campaigns which are basically rogue like settings without that well written stories.
Is it worth the money? I think yes. This game entertained me so far so much more than plentiful of AAA games which cost > 60 bucks.
But do not just take my word for it - try it out and in doubt ask Steam for a refund if you do not consider it a fair price. So far it is definitely worth my time and I am enjoying the stories which make some AAA games pale in comparison with ease.
2. Yes. The History is currently left entirely to random generation, but visuals can always be fully modified. And the Hooks at least whenever you have a Random Character in the campaign setup.
I think the price tag is just right for the game.
-Entirely custom party?
This is hard to answer. You won't be able to execute a pre planned build; your characters get to pick 1 of 3 possible talent choices each level up, randomly drawn from a talent pool for their class, not unlike deck builder type games.
Still, it's not impossible to sculpt the build of your dreams, but that would require a substantial effort employing the legacy system, or incredible luck when drawing talents.
Long Answer: Yeeeeeessss.
It's a solid amount of quality content for the price. And I'm hoping the modding community really takes off to enhance the replayability.
You can do that (as well as appearance and backstory), but note that the class selection is quite limited. There are just three classes: Fighter, Hunter and Mystic (i.e. swords, bows, magic). Not the full range of D&D classes.
No, you can go in to each character's sheet and type out a fully custom history, if you like. It doesn't actually affect anything (it's just free-form text), but it might help you to roleplay. I think you can also customize the "hooks" on each character, which means choosing from a huge pre-made list of story traits like "Romantic", "Destiny" etc, which will affect what roles those characters end up getting in random stories.
It's unbelievable.
Since the class selection is small but class customization is varied, it may be possible to create a rogue-like character. The class just won't have the official title of rogue.
I've also taken my sweet time during character customization to constantly reroll characters until I get the specific two attribute moniker I'm looking for, like 'Poetical Loner', or whatever. That was before I discovered it is easier to just rearrange the Personality attributes under Stats. So, instead of rerolling a hundred times, you can make 'Poet' and 'Loner' the character's top two personality stats which becomes the core of their character.
I've been wanting to get into adding storytelling events or maybe even full campaigns since I picked up this game but it seems daunting so I've put it off.
Also yes for selfish reasons, so the devs get more money and they can expand this great game further.
