Games Like Wildermyth
I seem to have some free time on my hands :) This game was such a revelation to me that I was hoping someone could point me to other similar titles: story-driven, slow-paced combat, characters to really care about.

book of demons and divinity original sin 2

Appreciate the suggestions! I own the first Divinity but was just overwhelmed with the open world and occasional insta-death when I make interesting choices. Does the second make it less 'too much'? I am a simple man...

yep! The second game is much better all around - but it's sill a little more open world than Wildermyth is. I had a hard time with the first Divinity too by the way

another game might be xcom 2 (base game) now that I think about it.

Thank you! I'll check both out.

You might also want to check out "Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption". It's an adventure/RPG hybrid (based on the Quest for Glory series, if you're familiar with that), and also uses turn-based combat. (If you don't just sneak past the hostiles...)

Thank you!

Into the Breach for the procedural generation, tactical combat, and strong characters. Pathway is less replayable and the characters aren't as strong, but has that old pulp adventure charm going for it. Darkest Dungeon for a more punishing, darker, but very character-ful experience, although 'caring' about the characters is probably the wrong word there.

On the non-procedural but still tactical side, Mutant Year Zero if you're okay with the weirder setting (I am). Pillars of Eternity II has a turn-based mode. Looks like you've already played Shadowrun. Maybe The Banner Saga?

Shadowrun is one of my all-time favorites! I've enjoyed Darkest Dungeon but it scratches a different itch for me. I'll check out the others. Thank you!

I recommend:

**The Yawhg**
This is more of a choose your own adventure game, but everybody I introduce it to really enjoys it. It's short, charming, and story driven. I find it scratches some the same itch that Wildermyth does, however it is 100% multiplayer.

**Moon Hunters**
This is essentially an action rpg, best played with a controller and a friend. However the combat is easy enough that it's not the main focus of the game at all. Instead the focus is exploring the mythology of the world over many short play throughs. The world constantly presents you with choices in a similar way to Wildermyth, and your characters all go toward forming a pantheon that is persistent between games.

I have no friends, so will check out the second one. Thank you!

it's focus is more on the family as a whole rather then the individual characters, but "MASSIVE CHALICE!" might be worth a look. similar combat styles, generations-long wars, non-standard fantasy setting, etc.

Massive Chalice is another of my all-time favorites! I might just play it again.

Hi Grandpa,

I can understand your feelings. I loved Wildermyth from the very first look and instantly bought it. Just finished the first story and regret nothing. One of the best games I ever played. To fill the emptyness when beloved games are finished, please have a look at these:

The Banner Saga (played myself)
- this will fit most, I think. Many similarities
- fantastic art style, turn based combat, intense story, caravan management instead of a kingdom
- comes as trilogy

Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Enhanced Edition (on my wishlist)
- CRPG, fanatsy, kingdom managment
- own universe, massive quests

Dead In Vinland (on my wishlist)
- viking theme
- more combat focused
- survival management

Tyranny (on my wishlist)
- isometric RPG, you play the bad guy
- choices you make effect the future world

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark (on my wishlist)
- comic art style
- tactical RPG with turn based combat
- strong focus on fights, similar to FF Tactics

Hope it helps a bit!

Best regards
Wolves

Thank you! I just wish Pathfinder wasn't so dense. I have the turn-based mod which makes combat so much better but I could care less about all the rule minutia. I should probably try Tyranny. Being the bad guy can be fun.
