What difficulty are you playing on?
As a brand-new player I played a bit of the first campaign on the standard difficulty. I thought the combat was really boring, even though the mechanics were interesting. After an hour I scrapped that campaign and started over on the next hardest difficulty (I think George R.R.?) and I'm having way more fun with the game now. Enemies pose a real threat, and I have to think about movement ranges and action points.

Curious to poll what difficulty everyone else is playing on? Do you have any difficulty suggestions for a new player? Does it scale well into the mid and late game (the calamity system looks really cool)?

Started with easy/easy
went to Medium/easy
next campaign will be hard/easy

Not a fan of overworld time management, so I keep that on easy.

There is a nice tradeoff between rushing the chapter objectives vs clearing everything on default difficulty, which scales up for the harder difficulties. By the end of chapter 4, monsters have lots of calamities applied. You may want to check out the guide for harder difficulties, and also the mod to make difficulties even harder:

I play cs Lewis overland, George Martin combat. Gives me enough time to soak up the lore and stories, whilst giving me relatively challenging fights.

It depends on what I'm in the mood for. If I want to focus on storytelling I play on J.K Rowling (medium) for combat and C.S Lewis (easy) for the overworld. If I want to focus more on the combat and strategy aspects of the game I play on George R. R. Martin (hard) for combat and J.K Rowling for the overworld.

I played first in easy, now have restarted and playing in George R.R. Martin in both combat and Overworld. Still in the 1st campaign. Once you know the game, I think harder setting is good as it forces you to have good combos.

Wildermyth it's also about building your legacy and choosing the right heroe fro the right job. I played Lovecraft dps crowd control style, bud since i play with 1d6 health and testing 2d4 health, i use crow control crowd control legacy stile, adn working hard with subclasses mod so more tactics are valid in lovecraft.

nerfing crowd control? have you played the monarchs campaign?
Smoker Mar 13, 2020 @ 4:13am
(i removed some post less off-topic messages) not really only the begining reserving it for testing almost done in new mod. Why? do yu think i will change my mind? ;) I just want all strategies be viable if they are mastered, and spawning crowd control every turn like arches or compulsion feels so cheap, same as kill or be killed strategies in my opinion. Sorry for the off-topic.

Played the first campaign on medium/easy, playing the second one on medium/medium. I intend to play the next on hard/medium.

Tried the Monarchs campaign on G.R.R difficulty and started to get my ass wooped hard around mid-chapter IV and the last mission is totally impossible with my current party so I have to restart.

Ok, just lost at the first mission of the campaign. Was actually heartbreaking because among my heroes, 4 were relatives as man and woman were starting heroes, in love, and 2 others (1 man and 1 girl) were children of the woman (hopefully of the lover too ^^). Husband died first sacrificing his life for armor for the rest (5th hero had died already). Then son died trying to kill a gorgon. And then Girl died :-( and finally, strongest hero, mage lasted a bit. Managed to kill A gorgon an another monster but was killed ultimately.

And that's what I like with this game. Really creates stories. I'm happy with a defeat because it told a story that I felt was interesting. And on top of that, gameplay is really good!
