Defintiely graphics related, but your 1050 is obviously way more than enough to run the game.... This is extremely strange. Do you have an unusual multi-monitor setup? You can try chaning settings for the game in your nvidia control panel - make sure it's using the right video card, turn off anything fancy. Update drivers, restart computer.... I don't know, this definitely should work :-/
Other things that have tripped people include some overlays (xbox, etc..) but that's more like occluding parts of the screen, not totally breaking the game.
You shouldn't need to install java or anything, the game should run from the .exe with the embedded jvm.
Disabling it solved the problem.
It's not ideal but Wildermyth is a great game and I can live with that.
