Post-Game Discussion Thread *SPOILER WARNING*
Spoilers ahead, obviously.

Has anybody else reached the credits yet? I'm curious to hear other people's experiences with this game.

I completed the upload shortly after being prompted around 05.08am. I assume there's probably another ending scene where you keep going and the FBI interrupt the upload? I'm going back to find out.

The ending report suggested I'd only seen around half the clips. I'm wondering how exactly the time ticks down and how it's possible to get a complete upload if that's the case.

Did you feel you had a good grasp on the story by the 05:00am deadline? I definitely feel I missed getting to the bottom of some of the story strands such as Peter and Karen showing up at the apartment.

EDIT: Having played around a little bit more, time seems not to be changing so the upload prompt seems similar to the message in Her Story as a means to bring the game to a close.

I just finished. I didn't realize I was timed, I was like whaaaat. I too according to the report got about half way through the story.

I feel like I have a decent grasp on the over all but I hadn't delved into what exactly happened that made David flip at the end or why Maxine cut him off. I also hadn't gotten too deep into Karen, Peter and all them. I was on my way there next when my time ran out.

Good to know though that the end point is the end point. I'm going to play again tomorrow and see how much I can get through in the allotted time.

I'm not finding the story as compelling as Her Story but I'm enjoying the crap out of it. Lot of fun.

Frankly, I think Her Story was better. I think a murder with interviews lends better to this type of gameplay than NSA footage about a rogue agent.

I was not a fan of all of the downtime (though I understand why it had to be there). There's definitely some holes in the end that I am planning on going back to fill (like the truth about maxine and what happened afterwards to Ava/Emma). Otherwise, the story is pretty straightforward, and had less dead ends then her story (a bad thing IMO, because sorting out the important stuff from the non-important stuff was part of the puzzle).

I don't know. This just isn't as interesting as Her Story to me. I feel so bad for saying it, because you can tell that Sam Barlow put so much into this.

We had nearly identical experiences. Around half of the footage seen in the report, felt somewhat conclusive but there were some parts missing as you pointed out; David's big decision and his falling out with Maxine - although I saw both the video of her threatening him with potential blackmail as well as the video where she shoots him in the leg. I just don't know why they got into a fight.

I think this is a somewhat appropriate thread for this, but I'd theorize that David did what he did because he was legitimately indoctrinated into the ideology. Alternatively, he was using it as an excuse to disappear while also doing something he thought was for the greater good. Lastly, he could have just straight up been trying to off himself and using that as an excuse so he'd go down as kind of an extremist hero instead of the piece of total s*** he knows he is and he knows eventually all parties will know what he's been up to.

No offense to the excellent writers or plot, but I'm not sure I really care enough to keep digging for the answer. Let me know what you find :)

Remember to view the report that's in the main menu after you've completed the game. I got the Maxine ending, and the report said I focused on that, though I'm not sure why as I spent most of my time researching the pipeline protesters. Guess it might be connected to seeing the "ending scene" of the Max plotline but not seeing whatever counted as the "ending scene" for the protester plotline.
threedotonefour Aug 23, 2019 @ 9:02pm
Also, the plot is partially based on a real story - in the UK an undercover agent got an environmental protester pregnant: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/may/01/woman-tricked-relationship-police-spy-launches-legal-action-jim-boyling

I completely ignored the upload thing and kept digging until 5:58, got "more than 3/4 of the clips". I couldn't think of other words to type to find the ones I missed. But yeah, you can ignore the "end game" prompt and keep digging until 6, I believe.

I'm on 3/4 as well, and time seems to be stuck at 5:07. I assume it's like Her Story, where you can keep playing forever after the end game prompt appears.

The keywords I used to get the missing piece were 'ban' and 'know you'. The first gives you her perspective, which is basically her getting fed up with him for being a pushy jerk.

When you get his perspective, he is talking about how things are screwed with both his wife and his girlfriend. She tells him he kind of deserves it and he goes off on her for being a liar about herself, but that he knows her. She laughs at him, and eventually bans him.

The resolution to that whole plotline suffers the sort of general underwhelming nature of the story as a whole. You've got three main plotlines, but they don't seem to meaningfully intersect with one another, and essentially all boil down to 'this guy was kind of a ♥♥♥♥.'

You have his wife who gets progressively more angry at being left behind, but who is also scared of him because he apparently straight up murdered her ex-boyfriend. A chilling tale, but it doesn't really connect to the overall plot, or to his ending.

You've got the Ava/Terrorist plotline where he appears to get too deep into things, falls for Ava and the whole thing crumbles around him when the group is rounded up but ultimately not convicted.

And you've got Maxine which really has nothing to do with either of the above. It is literally just a third plotline about how he starts flirting with a camgirl, gets too attached and creepy until she bans him, keeps trying to contact her and gets threatened, and then, for some bizarre reason, decides to go and threaten her to get her to delete files that she wouldn't have used if he'd have stopped being a creep.

Compared to Her Story, the game just feels really disjointed. In that game you had a central mystery to solve. In this one, you're just sort of looking into the private life of a sad man before he kills himself.

I will say, the timer appears to be like the end game in Her Story. I kicked around trying to 'solve' the Maxine plotline for a couple of real time hours. Once I was satisfied with that it was about 3:30 in game. I went back to my early notes, searched about a half dozen options that gave me the gist of the Ava plotline and the game went from 3:30-5:00 in about fifteen minutes.

It doesn't appear to be a real timer, it just seems to be connected to your general progress. Once you have the overall gist of the three plotlines, it prompts the ending.

Yeah this is the case, I'm still digging and time hasn't moved forward.

She does know a fair amount of potentially harmful information, like what David did to Peter and that his girlfriend is pregnant, so I can maybe see why he feels like he has to get her to delete the files. I need to go back and check the chronology to see exactly where David tracking her down sits, but he hasn't got the beard, so I'm assuming it's after the operation where he's still trying to keep his life together?

I still haven't gathered what exactly Maxine's goal in blackmailing David is.

This is my personal take/opinion on this game.

This game is about the life of a single man, David. He's an FBI agent. The FBI agency provides him with a fake girlfriend (Emma) for undercover purposes. They fall in love anyway. The woman decides to "test" him and brings another man in the house. David thinks his girl is in danger so he shoots the other man and kills him. David and the GF decides to forget about this and have a daughter later on.

Skip a couple of years later, David gets a mission from the FBI to infiltrate an organization called Green Storm through a woman called Ava. She's the mark. Their mission is to destroy Prosperen's advancements to save the water. Away from his family, David eventually feels more and more lonely and starts to fool around with girls from the internet, and his new friend Ava. He eventuallly falls in love with Ava and also start taking a liking to an internet girl called Maxine. Since he doesn't meet with Maxine, he can literally tell her everything, which is a great relieve to him.

While he's having pressure from the FBI agency to follow protocols, David comes up with a plan to help the Green Storm group. He convinces the group to bomb a bridge to greatly reduce the speed of Prosperen's advancements. The group's reluctant to the idea and don't agree/disagree with this, leaving things as they are.

This is where sh*t starts to hit the fan. Ava announces David she's pregnant with his daughter. He doesn't know what do considering he needs to stay undercover and his true family is back home. So he keeps going on with the lies. He goes on protests, gets involved in fights and gather the materials needed to make bombs. In this time, David also sees Ava with another man and feels the needs to "protect" her he says again. But she gets mad and both end up not seeing each others very much anymore. Several months passes and Ava gives birth to a girl called Star (hidden because its one of the "harder" words to guess).

Meanwhile The FBI decides to follow David since he's not following protocols and he's acting more and more nervous/aggressive. The only thing keeping him from completely losing it is Maxine at this point, but then she decides to stop playing acts and ask him to stop talking to her considering the gravity of David's actions. She also tells him that if he doesn't, she's gonna reveal/send every secrets he has told her in the videos to the cops. David can't leave it at that so he decides to pay a hacker to get her personal informations and address.

While he's waiting, he tries to see his daughter Star but Ava refuses to let him approach her. He runs away. Once he's got the info about Maxine, he goes to see her and brings a gun with him. Once there, he threatens her with his FBI status and gun. But doesn't do anything. However, Maxine also has a gun and shoots him in the leg. She also tells hims the cops are on the way to arrest him, but he's released quickly when he shows them his FBI badge.

Back to his boat and realizing that everything went to sh*t, can't comeback home and his agency is about to fire him upon reviewing the videos Maxine released to the police, David makes one last video to his wives and daughters, telling them he's sorry for every mistakes he's made and he's going to try do something good for once. He takes the bombs, goes to the bridge spoken with the earlier group to plant the bombs and blows everything up, including himself. Resulting in a suicide.

Holy cow, I outdid myself xD. Anyway, this is my personal take on the game. If I've missed anything or if something doesn't make sense, Id be more than glad to hear your thoughts!

Her goal, from what I gathered, was just to get him to back off. She doesn't bring it up until he keeps coming after she's banned him, and then she uses it as a 'go the heck away' card.

Unfortunately, he is unhinged enough that rather than take the hint, he decides to track her down, leading to the shooting.

Yeah this feels fairly complete. That's my biggest issue with this game. I kept waiting for the big twists and it just never came. The only thing that's really missing is that apparently Karen was also an FBI spy in the group, but that's really hard to figure out, and doesn't really add much. Why did Karen care so much that it kickstarted this game's premise? No idea, and that's my biggest issue.

I was hoping for more of a connection between Karen and David as well. There's information in the report I hoped would lead to more content, but terms like 'green dagger' and 'Marcus' (?) are dead ends. Maybe there's more if you get a 100%, but I doubt it.
the_nell_87 Aug 24, 2019 @ 12:56pm
I got "more than three quarters" in the final letter, so I was fairly complete, but I still missed some stuff.
The letter said I focused mostly on Maxine, which I guess means I missed some clips about with Emma, Ava, Alba, Mike, etc, but got most/all of the camgirl clips?
I don't quite get what happened with Emma in between David missing thanksgiving, and Emma breaking up with the anesthetist guy a few months later. So I don't quite "get" what led to Emma having an affair and then basically insisting the marriage is over. There doesn't seem to have been a triggering event, since Emma didn't find out about Ava, as far as I could see. She just got lonely and started reflecting on the Paul thing and decided it was now a deal breaker, several years down the line?

Casualgamer Aug 24, 2019 @ 5:19pm
It didn't felt at all it was a detective game, much more like watching a melodrama with cut episodes, lol.

It seems I am not the only one who couldn't go deeper about the Pipeline case, mine ended that David was not anymore trusted by the group and it's his boss that decided to pull him out of it. Can't blame him, David having an affair was a sign of him going rogue.

I wish it was less focused on the "harem" seriously. I would've prefered to see him more in contact with the other members of the group. Anyway, I got the Maxine ending too and I think David killed himself because Max had the videos where David told her about the murder of Paul.

I don't think I will continue it because the plot (how get scwered by your harem) doesn't interest me.
