Can't play campaign

I can play scenarios just fine, but I cannot start a new campaign. I open the new campaing, select some and/or change the bonus and try to play it, the game always crashes. It seems like it tryes to load the map or something and then windows "beeps" that program had problem, RRT2 exe will eat one thread of CPU at maximal rate and will remain in that state unless killed.

I tryed compatibility mode, I tryed the no cd "patch", either did not work.

I am running Win 8.1 64bit.

Help?

I have Windows 7 64 bit and it runs fine for me with Nvidia 650 GT and sound blaster Audigy 4 sound......Me personally would try this. try adding RRT2.exe file to DEP settings if your Windows 8.1 has that option and turn it off. Offhand i don't know if Win 8 has this feature or not but mine does and i have had to use it for a few old games such as Port Royale 2 and Baldur's gate enhanced Edition.. if it does nothing then go back and turn it back on.

DEP is on by default only for windwos programs and services and if DEP would shut it down, it would tell me that it was DEP.

But by mistake I found out, that once the game crashed, and by pressing ALT, I can see the error message (directdraw). So I did a little searching and I guess it is connected to the resolution problem. I will play with that later and tell the result.

yeah , too large of a resolution may cause a problem too.

I am having the same problem. The scenarios run fine, but the campaign crashes every time. Is there a solution to this issue?

Personally I have a virtaulbox with XP. So I started campaing there, make a save and copy it back. I have to do this before every campaign mission, because of the videos I guess.

I am not aware of other solution but I would appreciate it.

i cant play mine... it stays at a black screen on th main menu
