You have to double click on DxWind.exe to start it, or you can make a shortcut and put that shortcut where you'd like.
I play this game in a window at 1920x1440 on a 5120x1440 super ultra-wide screen, on Windows 11, and it works flawlessly. LOL
No need for any fancy settings.
1. Download the GOG version of RRT2 and install it
2. Download DXWnd
3. Extract DXWnd to a folder named DXWnd on your desktop
4. Open the folder, right-click dxwnd.exe and select Properties, click the Compatibility tab, check the "Run this program as an administrator" box and click OK to close the window
5. Open DXWnd and click Options > Add
6. In the Name field, enter "RRT2"
7. In the Path field, enter the following:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Railroad Tycoon II\RT2_PLAT.EXE
8. Under Window initial position & size, enter the following:
X = 50 Y = 50 W = 1920 H = 1440
Note that you can enter any 4:3 resolution in the W & H fields. Any of the following resolutions will do:
800×600, 960×720, 1024×768, 1280×960, 1400×1050, 1440×1080, 1600×1200, 1856×1392, 1920×1440, and 2048×1536
9. Hit "Try..." and see how it looks. You can mess with the resolution variables to see which run best on your monitor.
10. Enjoy this classic game!
Thank you for the detailed instructions. I'm curious about why the GOG version is specifically needed. Why can't we use this same fix with the Steam version; what's the difference?
You can fix this by copying the file "steam.dll" from Steam's main install directory to the game's directory. (Default is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Railroad Tycoon 2 Platinum)
