Train Crashes
Is there any way to avoid or "turn off" train crashes? These are REALLY annoying when you keep careful track of all your trains

You can use the cheat 'nowreck'. Just press the Tab key an then type that in. Note it also disables brakedowns, so do consider that.

One of the first things I do when I start a game. ;-)

train crashes can also be minimized by supplying more maintenance, tracking there age and using cabooses. the caboose is available when stone bridges are...but the game don't tell you that it just crashes your trains until you figure that out yourself.

Running your trains at slower speeds lowers the rate of wrecks and breakdowns. This means that a 2 car train going 100 is much more dangerous than the exact same engine with 6 cars going 40.

Running on flatter terrain (lower grades) lowers the rate of wrecks and breakdowns.

Keeping the train maintained regularly lowers the rate of wrecks and breakdowns.

Running a caboose greatly lowers the rate of robberies, wrecks, and breakdowns. I know it doesn't say wrecks in the tooltip, but it does affect it.

I never overspeed my trains, I almost never use high grades except when there is no choice, I constantly maintain my trains (with water, sand, and oil every other close stop or every single longer stop), and I always use the caboose, and I almost never, ever have wrecks.

Certain managers can help a lot too, i.e. Eugene V Debs, who isn't necessary if you do all of the above but can make a big difference if you don't.

edit: Does anyone know if curved track sections have higher crash chance than straight sections? If so, does the sharpness and length of curve factor in as well? I seem to remember reading this somewhere before but I can't seem to figure it out myself and I'm not able to look into the code to know for sure.
