I guess too much of anything will lag the game
Before the DLC was out, once upon a time, my bunker have 8 of 4x1 rooms, all with 5 green houses each, amounting to 40 greenhouses with various plants inside. The game was lagging very badly and the FPS was barely over 15FPS. My Acer Predator ain't new but decent enough for Tomb Raider at medium settings.

There were a few updates and great efforts went into optimization. Now, the greenhouses do not lag like before. Things are running well for me, until I put animals into my bunker.

I've tested with various animals and reached a conclusion, or rather observation. Because different users with different quality of gaming rig will experience different thing.

-HAMSTER-
As part of the hamster achievements, I have a room with 12 large hamster houses, each housing 6 black large hamster. That's 72 critters hopping around. My game didn't lag much from this. HOWEVER, once the food runs out on the feeders, the hamster went crazy and freezes my game intermittently every 0.5s. Their hungry indicator haven't show yet. I have 6 feeder trays spread out across the hamster infra-grid. 5 of them empty and left 1 with food running out fast. That's when it happened. My guess is that, perhaps all 72 hamster were fighting for what's left over. Simple work around is to ensure all feeders are constantly reloaded with food for the hamsters. 3 slots, max them up. In order to ensure food don't rot out so fast, hamster takes dried fruits. Once it's down to the last slot, move it to the first, and load up the 2nd and 3rd slot.

-CHICKENS-
Main culprit of lagging my game and pulling the FPS down to almost unplayable. If you have 2 full coops of 12 chickens in total, you'll start to notice the gradual drop of FPS. 2 rooms of 2 full coops each, totaling 24 chickens, you dead lol. The moment you wake up 6am, only 6.05am you screen turns from black, and you start moving, but barely moving. Once you exit the bunker and run off to other locations, your game lag disappears. So there, watch the amount chicks you bring back to your bunker. I rather buy eggs from Gourmet. I know 12 black chickens on their prime, can pop out plenty of eggs a day. Still, not worth the game lag.

-FISHES-
And this point, there's no functionality to keep the fishes swimming alive in your aquarium. Maybe in the future updates, they will breed and you need to load food into the tank. As decorative items, they eat up pretty much a large amount of system resources. If you have a 4x2 room with Aquarium Upgrade, and then start putting in fishes, once the fishes started swimming, your game barely moves. Perhaps if you have GTX 4070 lol, you're fine.

-COWS/GOATS-
It seems like I haven't observe any noticeable lag coming from them. Or, maybe I didn't push enough numbers to cause a lag yet. At this point, I tried 8 black and white spotted cows without issues. 12 brown goats no issues.

I have all the confidence with the Dev Team that they will optimize the game performance on top of improving the QoL issues, given enough time. Thanks for the coffee machine! But, sadly, I tot it's to PREP coffee and pack them up and bring loads of coffee in my bag to go out. It seems like Energy Drink is still the best thing to carry out, or Dried Red Berries.

Last time I played and ran RivaTuner only 2 CPU cores were really being used. So this game is not optimized well at all. I am on a 9900K with an RTX 3080. GPU usage was around 50% if I remember correctly. When zoomed out and looking at entire bunker I was stable at 40FPS. Which is terrible for a game that is 2D scroller and with no real heavy 3D graphics, effects, or animations.

They changed the engine or updated it shortly after release, but I found it made things worse. I believe they are using Unity Engine, but the game def does not run well at all. Especially when you increase bunker to max size with a lot of items.
So the game don't use all my intel cores? Nor proper utilizing the GTX bandwidth?

Unless you only have 2 core CPU it looks like this game doesnt use anymore. I guess maybe if you had a 1060 more GPU could be used, but for my specs to get that low of framerate is just bad.

For me, I noticed it is always the greenhouses. Having them (or too many of them) will cause lags and slow down movement/time progression. Zooming in to different areas, so greenhouses are out of the visible area, zero lags, everything is fluently.

I think the light effects of greenhouses are the cause.

Please Devs, if you see this: Could you release a fix patch, or an option, to reduce greenhouse light effects? - or even general light effects?
