Also, there's salted jerky which easily survives at room temperature for about a year (and that's it, only salt, no other preservatives), steamed chili that was good after 18 months in a sterilized glass jar, dried veggies that aren't as nutritious as fresh ones, but with near infinite shelf life if hermetically sealed (my dad still has some from I think 12 years ago, and it's still good as we used another pack lately), and a variety of other low-perishable foods one can make with access to modern equipment. This game definitely should have all of it and more.

I'd propose conditional production, something like this: if light and water levels are high enough though the whole plant's life cycle, then two plants of the same variety growing adjacent to one another are guaranteed to yield one seed each on top of the usual harvest (if not adjacent, there's a 50% chance), and if it's adjacent on both sides, then there's a like 25% chance of producing an extra seed.
