I have just played some games that use an older version of Unity. They also announced a sequel but moving onto a better version of Unity. Making it easier to implement new changes to the game. That couldnt be done with what they are currently using. Since the engine is more up to date it will make things easier and will be able to make changes they couldnt make before. As well as making the game run better and/or modify the engine to suit their game better.
If a CPU is running hot. Than more times than not its due to an inadequate cooler. Your CPU should be able to run all cores at 100% and not reach peak. I have a 9900K and it rarely ever goes above 74°C when all cores/threads are at a consistent 100% usage. For this game it never really went over 55°C for me for the cores being used.
This game seems to only use 4 cores. As cores 1-4 for me were used most. So hopefully with the updated engine it will allow for more optimized usage of more cores from the CPU. So in turn it will be better for players as well. As it than should be able to utilize the GPU more. Since more cores can than be utilized with a better engine. It will make for better performance as a whole.
Thanks for this confirmation. My predator is old. But it's still rather decent. It's i7 8750H. It has 6 physical cores and runs 12 logical processors. So imagine for logical processors, it only uses up to 4, the game sure lags. Because each logical processors has only this much Mhz/Ghz. Unless my CPU is single processor @ 2.20Ghz. I'm not too sure how it splits up the load. But I'd assume Mr. Prepper is only using 4/12 of my CPU? Or 4/6 if based on physical cores?
This thread is about Mr. Prepper 2 and not a tech help thread. If you are having trouble with the game's performance on your system. May I kindly ask you make your own thread In order to avoid derailing this one.
List what your problems are, the full specs of the PC, and things tried to troubleshoot the issue. The community will try to help you with other suggestions.
It is about Mr. Prepper 2 and the hope of using more efficient engine in the future. You mentioned about CPU cores usage on older version of Unity, no? So if I chime in, I'm derailing? No trying to pick a fight here. There are plenty discussions threads here that really go off rails. May I kindly clarify if you believe I am derailing the topic here?
Allow me to clarify first, I am not seeking help. Because there's nothing that can be done at this point for Mr. Prepper. I've followed for years since the testing phases (see my game time), and witnessed the game upgraded from an even older Unity which crashes randomly so often, to the one we're having now. No major issues for this one, just that as you have more functional objects and moving entities in your bunker, the game starts to lags up. Especially if you turn your bunker into a zoo using everything from the DLC. I'm sure I'm not the only one who observed this issue.
Well ok. When you talking about lag and asking about core usage it seemed you were asking for help. But yes, the game does not fully utilize the GPU it seems. At most the GPU for me was 52% usage with barely any usage on my CPU cores. So it was not a bottleneck or anything like that. Just poor optimization or the Unity version they used was just really outdated.
As you say the more objects you put in the worse it got. However, that didnt come with more CPU/GPU usage. Just stayed the same pretty much. So its either an engine limitation or poorly optimized. In order to avoid this I switched some room lights off which helped. It may just be a lighting issue there too. It just seems like a culmination of things on why performance is the way it is.
I didnt crash at all for this game but hopefully with the new engine Mr. Prepper 2 will be much better optimized and use system resources more efficiently. For this game to be 2D and have the performance it does. It def isnt good, even with the updated engine they went to. I as well played this game early and during the time they updated the engine to try and improve performance, but it was not much better after.
Anyway, Mr. Prepper 2! I hope there's some kind of in-game bonus where it scans your Mr. Prepper save file and port over some head-start. Can be higher character stats, resources, etc. But it all depends how the game connects from the story point of view. It's going to be another 5 years into the journey of developing, testing and releasing again lol. I hope I have the time to help the devs test and push the boundary of the game again. And get my name credited again woohoo!
Not sure how they could use anything from old save. As you left your home and everything was left behind for the people you saved for them to live in your bunker. Hopefully it isnt 5 years until release, but def looking forward to the game.
