Buildable area underground

Is there a map or any information about limits to the area you can build your underground spaces in? I'm new to the game and think I made an error in my last run as far as building something where I shouldn't have.

You can build in the area where it allows you to build (Not too close to the map border). It's not huge a area but it's also not that small. I can't tell what issues you might be experiencing at the moment but if you could then a few screenshots or a video clip would help us understand. All I'm looking for is something that shows me where the map border is. That's really all the help I need.

I guess nobody has a buildable area map for those of us who like to plan ahead? I was trying to study the build grid and it looks like it extends farther behind the house than in front so I think if you build the silo in back then you actually lose some of the potential build space. In other words if you build the silo in front then you can actually build a bigger bunker? Any thoughts? proof?

Check this screenshot (all credits go to the owner!), this is the maximum buildable area. The person built the rocket on the left side but you have the same space on the right in addition (he just did not use it, you can use it, so +2 spaces wider and same depth as the rest of the building):

Also this is pre DLC, so plan your farms ;)

As I remember, silos in the backyard allows more space. 13 units across and 6 floors deep.

Thank you Gyger. That was what I was looking for. I did some testing last night on an old game that I didn't finish and you are correct. If you build the silo on the left then the max width is 12 units. If you build on the right (Back yard) then the max width is 13 units.

So I restarted a new game last night and my top floor is a long string of double rooms because I figured it would be easier in early game to get room upgrades for smaller rooms and the last room on the right will be a single air lock type room between my bunker and the silo.

That's nice to know. So my answer is incorrect.
