Tips and tricks - Dont read if you want to figure things out yourself
Hey fellow Preppers!

Since I have no clue how the wiki works... I just put my tips and everything else for people who want to know into this topic. If you know something I dont yet feel free to add.
Again this is for new guys who want to figure out how things and quests work or for veterans who may have missed a thing or two.

!So potential spoilers ahead!

Agent tips:

- He comes by once a week
- Remove 2 out of the 3 barrels you start with in the backyard, he only likes 1 to be present.
- Best to keep the board over your bed covered at all times, you dont need it most of the time anyways.
- Best thing is to store EVERY item you find or make, such as cans and so on downstairs.
- Him finding something doesnt mean game over as long as its nothing marked red or yellow and it doesnt happen constantly.
- Hover over the furniture in your house. If it says 0-3 it means you dont NEED it. Doe sit say at least 1, you NEED that in your house otherwise Agent be mad lol.
- He DOESNT like ANY tools you are carrying on you, including clothes. The day he comes by place everythign on your person downstairs.

Later in the game
- Watch electricity, you can unplug things if you want. Dont go above the red line at the power outlet!
- Dont draw water more than 3 times a day.

Food:

- Keep everything in your fridge except cans.
- Build normal traps, they are pretty cheap BUT you need bait from a vendor. It should catch something once a day AFTER setting them.
- From the first day you should farm a lot of berries, there is a plenty supply and they respawn very fast, once a day at least.
- If something is red (close to spoiling) Just cook it, it will turn green again and last a little longer.
- Mixing red (almost spoiled) and green (fresh) food raises their spoilage by a good chunk.
- Mushrooms are also great. Youll find a lot and they respawn as soon as you leave the map.
- Two water buckets (tier 2 workbench) are legal to place outside the house. You can place more but the agent doesnt like more than two.
- Okay something I JUST found out... you can turn beets into sugar AND corn into flour. How? Honestly its pretty interesting, you dont need a recipe, just dry em.

Also...
- You can CAN your food to make them last longer and buy additional recipes from one of the vendors, specifically the gourmet.
- Always have either salt, flour or sugar at hand for the neighbour. If you give it to her she may give you a nice treat the next day, usually a canned item.
- Setting traps early on and buying bait is a very good way to get meat and things to sell early on in game, especially since small traps only cost 1 wood and can be used 4 times.

Later in game
- The BEST farming furniture is the greenhouse that you can get from tier 3 workbenches. It will grow fast, has its own light, has decent power usage and doesnt use as much water.
- SOME seeds keep giving produce, meaning you only need one seed for a steady supply! The ones are: Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Oranges, Gurana. The others you will have to replant manually
- The dryer will turn your meta into jerky which lasts a longer time but comes at a cost of slightly less nutrition.
- If you really consider stocking up on lots of cans, mostly soup, go for the last level in the forest, you will find tons there, OR if you have a lot of fuel, go into the desert.

Other resources:

Wood = Forest, wooden furniture
(Respawn time of Wood is random, around 3-20 days according to the dev)
Rock = Buy it from the mine guy or mine it yourself
(Respawn time in the mine is around 6-20 days according to the dev)
Metal = Furniture, melting iron ore, buy at vendor (Sergei)
Glass = Furniture, melting stone, buy at vendor (mines)
Plastic = Phones, scrap from desert, buy at vendor (mines)
Electrical parts = Phones, Radios, Computers, found in desert or randomly in gondolas in forest
(Alternatively you can find a lot of computers VERY late in the main story) You get tons of them at the fort, make sure you got room
Fabric = Carpets and posters, furniture, fabric scraps in desert, buy at vendors

- Dismantle everything in the house down to the minimum you need for the agent to get quick resources.
- Steam generators are only needed later in the game and are pretty good overall since they are cheap and only cost wood to run. Its worth investing in.
- Disassemble badly damaged tools before they break. It doesnt take long, you get the resources back AND you can craft a new one right afterwards.
- Fuel is hard to come by at first, yet again you dont NEED it in teh beginning. Save up all you can for later. You need them for the desert and the mining machines
- Tier 2 allows you to craft a furnace... do that, you will need it.
- Stone makes glass, I repeat, stone = glass! That took me WAY too long to understand... you are welcome.
- Turn iron ore into Iron... duh
- You can find plenty of wood in teh forest. It takes a while to respawn however, maybe 3 days? You can also buy wood from a vendor in form of crates or plates and disassemble them.
- You can sell ALL but 2 wolf hides, trust me. Sell everything else like tusks, feathers, gold... all that stuff.
- Tier 3 lets you make warm clothes, do that. You need fabric and wolf skin.
- You dont NEED to have any mining passes on you when going spelunking AFTER you have already used them at least once.

Later in game:
- Use the mining machines! it takes about 4 fuel or so to fill one machine that works for 1 day at least. After getting the fuel skill book they work 1 day longer. Concentrate on the oil (for fuel) and crystal (for money) level of the mine
- Real generators dont take THAT much fuel and is completly worth it overall. With the skill book it increases the duration of the fuel usage.

Money:

- Money is hard to come by in the first days of the game... or so I thought, untill I found out that you can craft furniture for one of the vendors to sell, for a pretty good penny at that, however it takes time.
- You can sell almost anything, you should keep your materials however.
- Make sure to buy phones from one of the vendors as soon as oyu can, electric things are rare my friend... and expensive.

Preparedness:

- You can raise it by Trading and crafting, aswell as cooking things. Remember that!
- if it reaches zero you faint.
- If your health is depleted every incoming attack will cut a big chunk off of your preparedness!
- You can and SHOULD read skill books to make this all easier for yourself.

Quests:

Jam: Prepare some in advance with 10 Blueberries and some sugar aswell as glass

Magazine: Its on level 1 in the mine, left corner of the room of the mining guy

Geiger counter: Youll get it from Joe after finding the signal

Jacket: Its on level 3 in the mine

Glasses: Look at the plant Bob and ask about them. You will get the aviator glasses for the mining guy

Level 4 mining pass: Do the dog quest for Joe (who is in the forest on Level 4 I believe)

Signal: Drive 5 levels through the desert and check the antenna to get teh signal. Prepare with metal and food!

Illegal item: Youll find it on level 5 in the mine, in teh sleepless HQ. Its a bust on teh desk

Hydrogen: Level 5 of the Mine

Aviator: In the forest Level 5

Achievements:

I think there are only two of them that need a little help...

Everything is bob
Inspect any potted plant you find out in the world. One (or two) are obviously in Jennys home. You find the others way later in the story in a certain location you HAVE to enter anyways. Inspect them all and it should pop in said location

Perfect ending
Help everyone and max out their trust, including the minuteman!

Let me know what you think and if I forgot something~

The easiest way is to just buy it from the guy in the mine.
The fastest is by going to the desert.
Or by disassembling phones and other furniture.

You don't need any barrels above ground, he's fine with 0.

The C.I.P letter tells you the minimum amount of everything you need in your house to get a consistent 5* rating if you also abide by the weekly water and energy requirements.

When you've made space underground, move it - you never have to flip it again.

I think it was Lv 3

Berries respawn daily, tree trunks do indeed take longer. perhaps 4 days. You can also buy wooden boxes and planks from Sergey to dismantle and get wood that way.

Are you sure about this?

I made a thread about this a few days ago and was told that canned goods do go bad, it just takes a long time.

Would be nice to get dev confirmation either way...

I didn't notice the military rations going bad or the red/white survival soup that you only find as in world pickups - but everything else I had was degrading over time, albeit very slowly... Before I stuck everything in the freezer.

Problem solved.

im able to pick berries daily just don't see any wood respawning and it's been over 3-4 days since i gathered. Just curious if it indeed does take a few days for it to respawn or if this is a bug. I am aware of sergey selling but trying to get wood to make furniture to sell to nancy. Also, i am only on forest level 1 and 2.

Wood respawn is random. 3-20 days. Mine rock respawn is 6-20 days. (each item different)
