When I reviewed Volume 3, I said I hoped that Volume 4 would both shed some light on where this series was headed and that it would at least be longer than two hours. Well, it accomplished that second one... barely. As for the first, this was once again a character-focused story (Chris this time) that saw a new character thrown into the mix. Oh, and there was a mission again where a lot of people got shot. It has become formulaic at this point. Not good.... not good.

However, that didn't really bug me too much for this volume. First because I actually was interested despite having a general idea what was going to play out. The storyline may be similar to all the other Phantom Trigger games so far, but it is in execution that Vol. 4 does well. I do have to say the crisis this time got a bit screwy because of the shady ally and the "plan" he mentioned for solving it. I guess that was the point though: to show that guy was not only shady as hell, but almost certainly unhinged and sociopathic. Chances are we won't see him again, which leaves yet another side-story aside with some unfinished business. This game sure loves killing off random mooks, but named characters... less so. They should fix that. Seemed to come close this time though. :o

Anyway, if you have come along this far with Phantom Trigger then you know what you are in for. And if you have read my reviews, you also know what I will say next: wait for a sale. There was more game here than usual while keeping the same high quality, but it is still really short.

Still, I admit I am curious what will happen in Vol. 5... if only because Murasaki is probably my favorite character in this crazy cast. I guess we shall see in a few months or so when it comes out. :o

Annnnd I'm still waiting for my Kickstarter backer rewards from Vol 1/2 to arrive. ;_;

I thought i might as well write a review for this considering i have played and continued to support this series from first knowing about it and since there isn't any english review of this till date.

Overview

Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol.4 continues from where it has left off in volume 3 this time pursuing the backstory of Chris devoted to this volume. As with its prequels it is highly recommended that you have read the previous volumes before buying and reading this as it contains spoilers from past volumes and is a continuation of its story line.

The music and art style are still the same as the previous volumes with mini movies and short cutscenes every so and often while trying to keep the story fun and light hearted. Overall it retains the quality and polish of its predecessors and if you liked the other volumes then this volume is perfect for you.

However do not that it is short for the average visual novel but has fantastic quality and an engaging storyline with the 1st volume as an background(introduction) which some people may get bored of as it is slow and is only building up the world before the 2nd volume and onwards are more engaging and showing the reality/slice of life these characters have with very in depth character development.

I cant wait for the Vol.5 .

A really nice visual novel. The story is great and fits well with the music. I haven't seen the first 3 volumes, but I'll be looking forward in buying it due to this VN.

Chris's past really intrigued me, I really want to know how Chris ended up at SORD knowing that she's living a really normal life before the accident compared to Rena or Tohka since both of them are pretty much living at war since they were kids. But sadly, we only got a glimpse of Chris's past regarding her family circumstances. Regardless, I really love this volume.
