I screwed up, is there no way to eliminate Legrand and get promoted?

I didn't open the envelope with the drugs (I didn't know), so that whole quest is gone.
I got some contraband and want to plant it in Legrand's desk, but I don't have the required lockpicking skill. I clicked too fast when talking about getting money for Dong so I don't know what option I picked there, but when I talk to him now he says he sold his kidney, so I guess he's not going to give me the book. I saw some forum posts say he gives you the book after he sells his kidney, but it's been four in-game days so that's not gonna happen. It's not in Legrand's paper trolly and it's not in the lost and found. So now I'm stuck.

I can't report Legrand for dealing drugs, and I can't get the book to open his desk and plant contraband there. I already got Peter and Emma to date, so they are out of the picture. Only Legrand remains.

I have 12760 authority points, so I need about 3000 more to get promoted. Did I screw up so bad that I have to slave away at the desk to get them all? Is there any other way to get rid of Legrand?

I think you can buy the book from either the courier or from the black market shop.

Befriend Peter by watching his favorite TV show and discussing it with him for three days. Each time you do so, you’ll see a heart icon pop up on the right side of the screen. Do this three times and you will have befriended Peter. When you are friends with him, you can tell Peter to get revenge on Legrand for all of his pranks. Hack Legrand’s terminal and discover information that you can tell Peter to get revenge on him. After that... enjoy the show.

But Legrand has not pulled any pranks on Peter? I have his friendship all the way up and no option to discuss revenge

Oh, you failed the quest of getting the biometric lock by pranking Peter for Legrand 3 times? I don’t remember any other way to get rid of Legrand besides the drugs and Peter.

Yeah, I ended up just using authority to get it because I couldn't figure out the third prank.

So I really just have to either restart or grind?

Ok, new question: is there any way to get authority fast other than the minigame?

Do you have any save states when or before you accepted the prank quest from Legrand OR before you received the letter for Legrand from that suspicious person? If not, I don’t see another option than to grind or load a save state from wayyyy back.

Usually quests will give you authority, but near the end game of a floor, when everything is basically done, and if you don’t have enough authority, you have to grind. I had the same issue on Floor 1 since I was doing a run where the floor bosses don’t get arrested so I can unlock more endings, but that also means I won’t get the 10k authority for arresting them. Luckily I was only 800 or so authority short so I just grinded a 2 days or so (in-game time) to get promoted.

So I played the switch version, and apparently Marco has an illegal gun inside his desk. I planted the watch from the vending machine in his cubicle and managed to get him fired with that two counts of illegal possession charges by using the work telephone and reporting him.
