Not sure where the balance question is coming from, considering that for evey difficult battle, there is a simple solution to it that involved a bit more patience. Case in point, the doll. Charge moves were the way to go. And another example is the green orbs.. lost the tug of war? Charge moves smacked them out of the enemy.
The game's only issue, if you want to call it that, is that during release, you were stuck with the atrocious OG US Xbox controller. Otherwise, it's a superb version. It even let you skip cutscenes.. you can't even do that in the HD version apparently.
Paid $15 and change for it, I'd pay $3 to $5 for Genma dlc. Maybe it cost more where you live but that is problem specific to you and people who live where the game is $30 or more and doesn't make the game objectively overpriced. Plenty of indies cost $20 or more and aren't nearly as good of a game.
I get what you're saying and i feel for it but ya gotta understand that if you give capcom an inch they'll take an ell. While i love this game i don't love corprate greed and one pass would only lead to more.
