because its more of a resident evil style game instead of a soulsborne. onimusha is also a very simple and easy game. nothing like a soulsborne in that regard either.

That doesn't answer the question at all boy, the game has the tag souls like when souls games came out way after.

Onimusha 2 and 3 are far better games than all souls games combined btw, and way harder if you use difficulty options properly, but I don't expect any common sense...

Onimusha doesn't have the stupid checkpoint system of dark souls type games.

Because its nothing like Souls? Though its obvious Ninja Gaiden was heavily inspired by this game even completely ripping the soul absorption mechanic.

Dark souls is basically a copy of onimusha with a harsher checkpoint system and a boring story. Onimusha would be a really successful franchise if they didn't stop with 3. They can even revive it, but I have no idea why remake the first one when it's nothing like the good ones.

Souls are simplistic af. That's part of their charm and why they were so succesful
