1.Camera changes angles too much.
2.And some moves like the kick move will be unavailable in modern none tank controls.(From my experience of Oni 3)
I like tank controls in RE, but that's because it looks pretty cool walking around.
Camera changes are a problem, and it's also why I don't use in RE, but this game doesn't penalize getting close to enemies.
Having said that, given that the boss fights in Onimusha Warlords have very little to no camera changes, using the modern controls during those fights would be more than fine. However, just moving around the world and combat with demons, tank controls are the way to play in my opinion.
I'm grateful they even put analog control in as an option, however the game was designed around the tank controls and the camera perspective was not accounting for the more modern style of control, thus there may be rather problematic areas that could cause frustration. Personally I'm probably going to use a mix of both.
That's just my 2 cents.
I haven't played yet but it's entirely possible they fixed the modern control so that when a camera angle change happens you will continue in the same direction regardless of which direction you are holding relative to the camera. It's been done in many other games and wouldn't be difficult to do here
I have played games with the effect you described, but even that is a bit wonky as you still need to change the direction of the thumbstick to account for your next direction and inevitable camera change, at which point your character kinda spazzes out for a couple of frames before heading in the new direction.
It's not a perfect solution, but I doubt there is one, even if you were building a fixed camera based action game today knowing that analog is the preferred method to control. Onimusha 3 attempted to address this issue back in the day by cutting the overall camera shifts to a minimum and where they did they often had fixed position but angling cameras and trolley cams to follow Samonuske and Jasque. However, this also meant they had to sacrifice the pre-rendered enviroments and backgrounds, thus needing to render everything in real time which also lead to overall greaphical and art style reduction.
**SPOILERS FOR ONIMUSHA 2 AHEAD**
My favourite scene in the Onimusha franchise is in Onimusha 2 at the beginning of Act 3 on the beach fighting Gogendautus for the 3rd and final time. That scene of the rolling waves on the shore, the sun setting in the distance with the picturesque cliffs and rock formations, it had a unique and almost matt-painting (now that I think about it that's probably what they used for these pre-rendered eviroments) beauty to it.
Whoops, you are correct, my bad :S
