Questions about Fortinbras (last boss, normal difficulty)
The only fight that gave me severe headaches was the endboss himself. Or more exactly: one attack of his where he picks me up and then I'm dead. Happend like five times in a row (and yes, walking back to the place and watching the cutscene is a drag). I eventually beat him in a fight where he didn't do that, but for my next playthrough I'd like to know:

How do I know he will grab me and prevent it? (When he did, it happened too fast for me to tell.)
Can I do something to get out of his grip or is that supposed to be a one-hit-kill?
If it's not a one-hit-kill, how much health do I have to have to live through it? (It seems I can't heal while he's at it.)

I'd like to know this myself as I've watched a few videos of someone fighting this boss they get grabbed but somehow get out of it.

I was lucky enough for not having him doing this attack in two playthroughs, but on the last one he did it and I could get out by pressing buttons randomly like crazy.

Mash everything, including triggers. I use analog stick, so I circle it like crazy. Yes, you gotta use all your hand for that.

There is even a better way to avoid it at all costs: hit and run. Whenever he performs an action, he will stand still for 2 or 3 seconds, aftack him. After that, go away. It will take a while to beat him but thats really safe.

Mash the four buttons. It's the only way. He's even easier if you have Bishamon. All you probably need is one medicine bottle, normal combo + magic attack (Bishamon has infinite magic), rinse and repeat. And he's dead.

Mashing triggers, bumpers and face buttons does nothing. The only thing that counts is left and right. Whether it's dpad left and right or left stick left and right, that's all that matters. Even in the original game on PS2. This works on all grabs and sword "duels".

In regards to seeing it coming, he only does it when you're close to him. Usually it happens after he swipes you away and then tries to fingerpale you. In terms of animation I don't really have any info to share, as I pay more attention to Samanosuke than whatever I'm fighting.

You can interrupt him by using Shiden (lightning magic), or if he's close enough to it you can use Arashi (wind magic) to knock him down.

Easy boss, get the Bishimon sword and just magic power nonstop.

This advice won't help him very much if he wishes to get the achievements, which demand us to complete the game on normal. Beating the final boss with Bishomon won't help him very much.

Mash buttons and you will break free, it isnt rocket science.

However, Fortrinbas can be really difficult without the Bishamon sword.
