This version has been made for widescreen with improved graphics, you have the option to keep the original 4:3 resolution, has both tank control on dpad and free movement on joystick, quick switch between all melee or ranged weapons without having to go in the menu. I might be missing something but that's already a couple nice improvements considering the game is pretty cheap.

the "widescreen" feature is just the crop in version of the 4:3. You will lose more screen space with their "widescreen". Sorry, you won't see more with "widescreen", you will see LESS :steamsad:

Well the remaster does have a few nice additions to it. The ability to swap weapons without needing to pause the game, the option of using directional controls, playing in the original 4:3 aspect ratio or the new camera-panning 16:9 option, and using the Japanese language track will play the uncut version of Hecuba's transformation scene. It depends if you think those things and whether or not this is a convenient version to own make it a worthwhile upgrade. Personally, I find the fast weapon switching to make it the ideal way to play Warlords.

True, but it does scroll when you reach the edges, which does look pretty cool. You can switch weapons during gameplay, and the rerecorded soundtrack sounds good, plus joystick controls and HD resolution.

But you have probably not even planning to buy the game and just use an emulator anyways, but still decided to post on this forumn so you can get some comments. Enjoy these comments.

still on the fence since I has the PS2 disc but don't want to dig through my storage. And if the upgrade doesn't warrant $20 then I will put $20 toward RE2 Remake instead (which seems to warrant a double dip, based on early reviews and feedbacks)

Buy Remake instead. I only bought the HD Onimusha because I hope that high sales will bring us Onimusha 2 HD, the best in the series.

HD port, ITS NOT A REMASTER.

You will get better results with emulation, plus, you still have the original soundtrack if you emulate.

I don´t think so. Show me your Emulator settings. For the Onimushas it´s best to use native Resolution DirectX 11, with hardware OpenGL it looks very nice but low fps.For me original PS2 on original hardware is better than emulator.
This "HD port" is the best way to play this classic game, IMO !

This "HD port" is missing the original music and original voice acting..."best way", right...

And the PS2 version is still of course the best way to play it, but you need an old TV.

Genma Onimusha is arguably the best way to play Oni1, though you'd obviously need an OG Xbox or 360 for that. (And even then I'd say it's probably more fun if you have played the vanilla version before.)

The only major advantage the "remaster" has over the PS2 original is really just the convenience of having it on Steam (or if you're european and only have access to the crappy PAL version), but beyond that, I don't think the changes/additions make much of an difference. Really weak effort from Capcom and Neobards.

The problem with Genma Onimusha is that it had a lot of loading times not present in the normal Onimusha.

That is why Genma should have been the game they should have remaster, fixing these issues while bringing the superior version.

About this version, sorry, but the change of OST killed it for me...I understand why they did it, but just pay the royalties to the original creater, do not remake the whole OST.

I just finished playing Genma on 360 and I can't say I noticed any major loading at all. There might have been a few instances when the screen goes black for like.. a second (or two at most) between screen transitions, but hardly anything that would impact the game in any way. Certainly nothing even remotely as annoying as the unskippable cutscenes on the Warlords version. Playing on 360 introduces some glitches in the background graphics, most notably on the Dark Realm, but that too is a minor issue.

But yeah, there's really no excuse for Capcom not to base the remaster on Genma. Ideally they should have made it an unlockable extra for completing the original version or something, since it feels like it would have been perfect as a second playthrough remix mode of sorts.

And I think I prefer the original OST too, but for what it's worth, I don't think new one is bad either. Most people who haven't the original game in recent times probably wouldn't even notice the difference if they weren't told about it beforehand.

...you could skip cutscenes in Genma? I played that version once YEARS ago (while I played the PS2 version around 100 times), didnt know that...if that is the case, yeah, I'm willing to sacrifice a 2 seconds loading screen in exchange to be able to skip cutscenes.
Koivusilta Jan 26, 2019 @ 10:01am
Indeed you can!
NeoStrayCat Jan 26, 2019 @ 11:20am
Yeah, I've already went back to Genma too and already 100% all of it, and yes, you can skip every single cutscene, both in-game and FMV period, would have been nice if this version would have been the one, lol.
