Mandatory grinding -> Trash

I play for fun, not to endlessly farm to fight your unbalanced bosses.

This game partly reminded me of the Zelda game I played on console years ago. It has that colourful cartoon feel that reminds me of the joy childhood. So I started playing it with patience knowing that it has clunky 2.5D mouseless movement and limited depth in terms of dialogue and exploration. There was clearly some grinding to do and so maybe I'd skip side-quests. The combat confused me at first because I have limited experience of turn-based video games, but I got used to it. However I soon found it repetitive. Every area required grinding and a series of short combat to reach a goal. After about 90 minutes I got to my first challenging boss fight and had a series of losses. I decided to up my game and look into combat strategy more than I did, and although I survived a bit longer the result was the same. And that was that. I could not gather the enthusiasm to persist to defeat this first challenging boss knowing that there must be a lot more of the boring fights to reach more and more challenging bosses which would surely take me multiple attempts. With no option to reduce difficulty I couldn't just play to enjoy the world the designers had created which is a shame.

I am recommending this to people who specifically enjoy turn-based combat games because I think it it well designed. However for others like me it is probably one to avoid. I managed to get a free code to play the game. If I had paid a few £ in a sale I might have persisted. If I had paid the full price I'd have been annoyed with myself.
