I'm a bit of a "noob" with intricacies / economy / stocks / money-management side of things with the Railroad Tycoon side of things, and I've not yet tried Multiplayer mode, but I'd be willing to give it a try.

I just downloaded this game so I could play with someone. We both downloaded the Coast to Coast and patch 1.05. When we go to the Multiplayer Game lobby we can see each others screen names but cannot see the game that we host. We also tried the LAN route but could not connect. Do we need the Patch 1.06 or is the fact that they are on Windows XP and I am on Windows 7. Any suggestions?

Game page says the game wont run on Vista nor Windows 7.
There seems to be a patch for this at http://hawkdawg.com/rrt/rrt3/rrt3.htm but the link is dead, and I can't download it. Anyone has this file handy around??

My brother and I tried playing this several months ago, both on Windows 7. We looked up info over 2 days, installed patches, tried hamachi and tungle, could not get multiplayer to work under any circumstances. We gave up. such a great game, just unable to get multiplayer to work.

If anyone can show proof that you are playing a MULTIPLAYER Lan or internet game on Windows 7, then please be very specific on what you did to make it work. Do not come here stating, "I'm playing on windows 7 and never had to download a patch". This thread is about "MULTIPLAYER" not some single player experience. Thanks.

I'm having issues as well. I'm running windows 8, and the game works solo for me and a friend. However, neither one of us can see the other if they host a game, both via lobby and connecting with IP via lan. Anyone have thoughts, or care to give it a shot with me?

It is likely this is a router/firewall oversight. Has anyone made sure to forward ports and such? Railroad Tycoon III requires you to forward the following ports: 6073,6500,9000.

If you need help with this, go to the link below and chooes your router, and then Railroad Tycoon III from the list.

I tried Multiplayer on Winows XP PE SP3 and the game failed miserably. Oh, they connected. Supposedly, we were even playing the same game. But when you flatten an entire city and the other player sees a thriving city after you've flattened it, you know you have problems. This was done as a test after she built a terminal and track and I saw bits of track and no terminal.

If this game is "great" on multiplayer, then I might suggest you find a First Person Shooter where the "teams" are battling it out, but each person gets a different city. Player one sees New York City, player two sees Chicago, player three sees San Francisco, player four sees Anchorage, player five sees Brazil, player six sees London, UK, player seven sees Paris, France, etcetera. Now that would be an awesome FPS if you think this game is great on multiplayer!

I should note we were playing on a LAN. It should not be rocket science keeping LAN games synchronized. The fact they botched it so badly is a real disappointment as I was really looking forward to sharing a network with a close friend.

I can't get this to work on multiplayer, either. Both users on Windows XP SP3, running Railroad Tycoon 3 1.05. Just as others said, we see each other in-lobby, but cannot see available games. When the host opens a game, they disappear from lobby, but no games appear in the servers list.

I've never tried multiplayer with another person, however when checking out multiplayer on my own it brought up another question..

I usually play at Very Slow speed, but in multiplayer games this causes the animation speed of everything, including trains, to slow down.
This makes everything appear to stutter or move in a slower frame-like way.

This kinda makes me sad since it basically makes me not want to play it multiplayer, so I was wondering if anyone knows a way around it?

I might be able to play multiplayer with someone too sometime, though I'd much prefer a fix for this before hand.
