previous i'd been using the disc this had no game update of course but when i updated the PC to W10 from W7 it wouldn't recognise my DVD player,nothing works in it!
I've had the game on Steam also for ages but its never worked before,i'm not good with putting fix or update files on my PC,but finaly got the W8 fix file to work,make sure you take engine.file out and overite the one thats there,happy days!

Just download the Vista/Win 7/Win 8 file and copy/paste the configuration file to your Railroad Tycoon 3 directory inside the data folder and you should be good to go!
Also: If you want to run the game in a higher resolution than the game options allow, download the universal widescreen tool from here (2nd post from the top): http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=25118
Then just point the tool to your railroad tycoon 3 directory, write in your desired resolution, hit apply patch and off you go! Launch Railroad tycoon 3 as normal and it should all work nicely.
