Fix for crashing and using any resolution

Ok, I spent some time and it seems the information is out there, but scattered and not clear to many people. Took me a while as well:

I play at 2560x1440. How?
From here:

-Patch the game to 1.05,
-Then install a NO-CD fix from Game Copy World or any other source you may use

-Install 1.06 patch (same file as hawkdawg page, but no need to register/login)

Now for the resolution:
-Use this tool to change resolution to any you desire:

For the FPS (game renders over 2000 framers per second, unnecessary strain, it's bad)
Use nvidia inspector (google it), configure the profile (find Railroad Tycoon 3 from the list) and use 120 for the frame cap. I also forced vsync and tripple buffering but that did nothing.

I don't have that, so I have no idea what you use to access it. I use Chrome with AdblockPlus and Avast.
