Will not start up
i try to play the game but it will not start up. i have tryed -S2 and it will start up and then gone. i looked up ways to fixs the problem and one was a copy paste in hawkdawg and they dont have it any more. so then i updated directX and then i couldn't play any steam game at all. Steam needs to stop selling games that you cant play! or tell us how to fixs it and help us by fixing it them self. i have stopped playing all steam games i have but CIV. untill steam fixes the problem with RRT3 i will be done with them.

I know this is not an isolated issue, and I myself have experienced the "Steam not found" error. I typically just do a computer restart to get it working again, but I doubt this works in all cases. I know there are other discussions on this subject, I'd suggest looking there

I ran into the same problem (crashing on startup) after installing the game yesterday.

Luckily I found a solution:
- Go to http://www.thegameengine.org/railroad-tycoon-3/railroad-tycoon-3-startup-crash-windows-10/ and klick on "Download link 2" to download a config file.
- Copy this file to the configuration folder (somepath\steam\steamapps\common\Railroad Tycoon 3\Data\Configuration) and overwrite the existing config file there.

Worked like a charm for me, I have been playing three hours without a single crash.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi, please follow the guide to get the game running on Windows Vista/7/10.

For the Steam issue, make sure that you copy your steam.ddl file (found in :\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.dll) and copy it into your RRT3 folder (:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Railroad Tycoon 3).

As this game was released back in 2003, the game has trouble with new software/hardware. A great website for all your RRT3 needs is Hawk & Badger Railroad, which can be found at:

http://hawkdawg.com/rrt/rrt3/rrt3_main.php

If you scroll down to 'Other Unofficial Patches', you will find a Windows Vista Fix. Download that file, read the readme, and put it into the correct folder in your RRT3 file directory. This is the same file that m@dm@x sent you earlier, so no need to do it twice.

You shouldn't need to update/change anything else to get the game running.

Hope that works for you, happy railroading :)

Hi, give this video a go. Do a fresh install of RRT3 on Steam, then follow these steps:

Hopefully that will work out for you :)

Thank you so much for trying. i just screwed up my PC trying. i cant load the internet now . i can play some games but the web will not work and some games. this PC is 10 years old so its time to get a new one now lol. but thank you for trying to help.
If you can't get it to work - I recommend the guide "Win 10 Instruction For Stable, 900p, 1080p, 4k Graphics - 2021" by Daimyo to get the game to work on newer operation systems

The website http://hawkdawg.com also has some good tips, patches, and mods
