No hardware accelerated DirectX 8.1 devices/drivers were found. (Windows 7, Virtual Box VM)

Hi all,

I've been trying for about a week to get this game to run on my Windows 7 x64 VirtualBox VM and I'm still getting this same failure mode(s). So far this is what I've tried:

DgVoodoo install (extracted all the application to the game directory, though I'm not certain if this is the right way to do it, since documentation isn't great).

After this change, the error message will change to "DirectX 8.0 or higher not installed" which is false since it is running 11...

Then I tried:

• 1.05 patch from Hawkdawg

• No Cd fix

• I also tried and later undid the Vista patch since it apparently is incompatible with DgVoodoo

• I also tried downloading DirectX 8.1 just to see, it did nothing either (the VM is already running DirectX 11).
  
  
• I also tried and abandoned the DxWnd approach. This never worked since I couldn't find a Railroad Tycoon 3.dxw file, and I am not clever enough to create one.

Has anyone managed to get this game working on a similar setup to mine? Note remove spaces to get right links.

hi xsgmsg, i get the same error message and aslo tried just about everything. whats really anoying is if i remove the game from steam, then re download it and install, i can play it, but as soon as i alter any settings or close the game, i then get the direct x message. i am running mine on a standerd win10 hp laptop. it would seem it all depends on if you have an intel or amd graphics card as to weather the game will run or not. maybee if enough people write bad reviws about it to steam they might do somthing to fix it or stop selling it saying it works with win 10 when it doesnt.
