1) Reaction time of your player (actually, it's his initial run acceleration, it's about physics) is the same with the mouse & the gamepad ; both TE2013 & TE4 have been designed with the gamepad in mind.
You can try to use FastRun to make your player move faster if it helps to keep playing with the mouse. :-) (HowTo => https://www.managames.com/Forum/topic29-4361.php )
2) You can select the umpire language in Settings -> Audio
By default settings, the gamepad does not get recognized, not as controller 1 or 2 or anything.
I went into my cellar and got out an old no-name gamepad I had stored there since eons. Windows recognizes it. The game does not work with this one either, however.
I ran steam integrity test for the installed files, no mistakes. I tried another USB connector. No changes.
I now deinstalled the game and reinstalled TE3 and will occasionally play that one with mouse, which I prefer anyway, the avatar , with comparable stats, simply acts faster and more agile there. I can do with mouse there, what I cannot in TE4.
The gamepad part of the game is too unreliable, for me does not work at all, obviously. It needs serious replacement. Way too shaky and complicated.
Did you do that ? ie: press a button and maintain it pressed for 2 seconds. (this allows to create any combination you want instead of only having 1 button or 1 axis assigned to a function)
And you have to do that with the Controller 1, not with the Keyboard 1. (that video is indeed outdated and shouldn't be followed)
In TE2013, the players start to run unrealistically fast. It's possible to do the same with FastRun in TE4.
With those L-R-buttons missing, not even all game commands could be assigned even if the normal buttons would function püroperly, whoich they don't.
The whole thing is a messy and dysfunctional workaround. A common USB gamepad recognized by Windows these days is to be plugged in, and works.
I will maybe return to your game again when there isa - much - better system in place. This one does not work.
However, a few people, including you, report issues with their controller, so it means there's something wrong in some special case(s), but unfortunately, all these people never want to help me figure out what's going on, so I never got the occasion to fix that issue.
So is there any chance you could help me to pinpoint what's wrong ?
1) To be sure I got it right : for example, if you press & keep pressing the X button for the Normal Strike assignation, the X will quickly show and then disappear despite that you still have the X button pressed down ?
2) What is your controller exactly ? XBox, XBox One, XBox One S, PS4, PS5, something else ?
3) If you disable Steam Input, do the triggers work ? (to do so, right-click on TE4 in your Steam Library -> Properties -> Controller -> Disable Steam Input, then launch the game)
4) Could you send me a Bug Report from the Settings -> Controls -> Player 1 -> Controler 1 screen ? (HowTo => https://www.managames.com/Forum/topic5-31732.php )
Can tell you only that it is a white XBox 360 controller, old, , and the other one mimics the design of an old Playstation 1 controller, but is no PS, but Windows, it isi old and some no-brand thing, but all buttons get properly recognised by Windows.
Both controllers are found by Windows to work properly, all buttons, both sticks, all LT and RT buttons. I have almost no use for thenm, but they work where I do or did use them in other games, including VR.
Answering by memory:
1. The window flashes, then returns to the previous text content.
3. Triggers did not work, no matter what. Not for assignment, not for in.game use. Bioth Steam and default mode.
4. Will do when I return to the game and reinstall it. Right now I have become a bit "distanced," and interest is low. Spent quite some time now trying to get it fixed, in vain. Time to move on.
Of three gamepads - one ordinary non-special no-name gamepad, one older XBox gamepad, and this new one, one works. two do not. It should not be such a hassle, neither USB nor gamepads are really anything new.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know its fine now.
BTW, can recommend the new gamepad, it has some nice features for those who would have use for them. The brand sometimes also advertises under the label Redstorm.
If Steam Input is off, then it's the game's responsibility if the controller works or not.
Your 2 non-working controllers didn't work in both cases..?
Could you try to disable Steam Input for TE4, connect these 2 controllers, launch the game, then go to Settings -> Controls -> Player 1 -> Controller 1, and send me a Bug Report ? (HowTo => https://www.managames.com/Forum/topic5-31732.php )
