Is anyone finding the game very hard, even on normal?
I find that even at lv 7 early encounters with multiple lv 5 enemies is borderlinr impossible, even after 40 mins of trying.

Try to pick off any enemies that aren't within visual range of others with stealth weapons. You can sometimes clear half the enemies in this way.

If you're being completely out-levelled, it's possiblt to sneak through some of the maps to the next one without engaging anybody whilst picking up some loot on the way.

I can't deny that the encounters are challenging though because they are, but I've not really found any that feel impossible, yet.

I don't think I'll be touching the harder difficulty levels though if it's going to do what XCom does and bump enemy health whilst reducing your damage output because the health to damage ratio is already on the stern side at normal difficulty.
Yea, i've been trying the stealth tactics you said, it's more when they are grouped up and won't seperate that gets me. Groups are very hard to take down. I do enjoy the game though and appreciate the challenge, it just seems to be a very steep curve

I completed the game on very hard in 30 hours, stealth was mandatory. I had to ambush single guys with stealth weapons as much as I could. Wait till they walk far from the others, the weak ones can be taken out in a single turn, if you don't they will notify the others. Stronger guys or robots have to be incapacitated with bormins charge or EMP. When that was done I could bring out my big guns and take out the others. Take advantage of each characters passive, get to high ground, mind control tanks, use cover, destroy their cover with grenades, etc

I'll try again but i've come across groups that stick together, and are unable to be picked off 1 by1. I've rqed for now and will resume tomorrow.

first i suggest you do some scavenge cuz there is a lot of items that will help you a lot . In the early game, some of powerful equiptment like weapons, weapon mods, body armours can easliy be found. Just be sneaky and sneaky. If you sneaky enough, you can even venture in map with high lv. enemies. You will find some of the high lv. enemies have only 14-16 hitpoints. Not even a threat. So just sneak in at any time.

But there are some boxes guarded by tough guys. Yes so you need to pick you fight. If you figure out you can sneak to take every thing, then sneak. Always fight for loot boxes that are guarded. Some fight gives you nothing only xp; if you have skills you need, why bother to take the fight that only gives you nothing but xp.

Then upgrade your stealth weapons. like I said, sneak in to scavenge, you can upgrade ur guns real fast.

Last thing is to take out enemies in one turn. If you upgrade guns and use skills, you should be fine with 1 or 2 enemy. If you can take them down in one turn, prepare for the fight, get some really good position, at least you can have your team amush first to kill one or two before alerting the bunch of enemies

I too find it a bit too hard on noral. i've made it to the med school/hospital at lvl 21. I've taken out 2 wanderer and the 4 man goup at the southwest. this took me several takes and say 2 hours. and I still have the boss group to do (of which I've already died 3 times). I don't think I've come very far in the game and this is getting me a bit worried. If I find it this hard now how long will I be stcuk on the next map, 2 days?
Same concern I have pennie

it may take you a bit and you may get stuck so you might i have to restart playthrough (because i did that) but after almost halfway through it gets fairly easy and i was playing on hard once you have a grasp at understanding how the game is meant to be played (being using stealth and picking off enemies by themselves) you will be able to progress through the game easly
Fair enough will give it another shot

It can be surprising just how close enemys can be stood to each other and you can still stealth one of them down (slightly overlapping awareness zones can be done).... saying that some of them have more health than you can do in a turn (even with crits ) unless youve upgraded your stealth weapons a lot , so Bormans knockdown is essential .... works differently on tanks though.

took me ages to do that section as well SNOW , watched a you tube vid with supposed "tactics" but those "tactics" involved being able to take down 2 guys with 12-14 HPs in a single turn due to having chosen the right weapon upgrades , so no help there

As the tutorials are nearly useless it´s a gtame you have to learn on the hard way. Especially if you are not proficient with tactic games, it´s even on normal mode very unforgiving.
Therefore I can imagine, that alot of players will refund it after the first 2 hours due to a quite hard difficult level compared to other games of similar genres.
I played alto of xcom and fire emblem defo not complaining, it's jsut out of the bat this game just does not mess around, wondered i it was just me :P I think it is a great game.

No, for a great game alot of things are still missing:

- more randomized loot
- possibility to sell loot
- more maps or at least bigger maps with random encounters
- side quests
- more interactive in the arc
- replayability !!!
....

Until now, it´s just a good but difficult stealth tactic game.

Would not be keen on randomized loot and random encounters at all for this game.
