It requires an online connection when you first start up the game, and then at random times after that.
If the Denuvo servers ever go down, then you won't be able to play the game till the servers come back up, which is what happened to WB games some time ago, people were not able to play their games for days because the Denuvo servers went down.
This also means if the denuvo servers go down permenatly then you won't be able to ever play your game ever again.
If you are needing to play it in offline mode because you lack internet connection for what ever reason, and Denuvo wants that online connection again, you will be blocked from playing your game till you get an internet connection again.
My brother who travels a lot for work has been blocked from playing his games with Denuvo on it because there was no internet connection wher he was at. I also have a friend who is in the military who can be deployed and often doesn't have internet connection for months and has been blocked from playing his games while deployed because of Denuvo.
oh? yea i can see why people would be pissed then
I just gave you 3 examples of people getting screwed because of Denuvo.
You also missing the part where people were blocked from playing WB games for several days because the Denuvo servers went down? I mean, if it is that easy for servers, that are being paid for by someone, can be taken down, what would happen when Denuvo goes out of business/Publisher stop paying?
That is an ignorant thing to say. There is a platform that specializes in selling DRM free games, that made $350 million in profit last year. Obvisiously people actually want to buy DRM free games.
I don't pirate games and will now not be buying this. I remember seeing the trailer for this a while back and thinking it looked like a great game and decided that itd be a game I'd buy at full price if it had a good reception. Now...eh, maybe I'l still buy it, just at like 90% off. Or maybe not at all. If you don't mind it, more power to you. If they'd come out and say "We'll remove it in 3-6 months" which is when they are trying to get the most sales, I'd understand and buy it...but that's probably not the case. The biggest reason for me is remembering Games for Windows Live, and how when it went down, it completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me over with a bunch of games that needed to check in with the server. I guess it left a bad taste in my mouth.
your talking about GOG right? yea i also like how they go the extra mile and mod the games a bit so they run better on modern systems not to mention how they do alot of great giveaways and the fact there are some great classic games you really cant get any where else
There's been cases where the implementation was done poorly and it did have a noticeable impact on performance. The devs configure the frequency of the online checks on implementation. If it's too high (Sonic Mania case, FFXV pirated runs better than original...) CPU usage takes a hit. On some extreme cases, the amount of Denuvo pings would create such amount of bandwith traffic that online games would suffer from lag.
Anyways, the performance issue is really only a concern in older machines or poor internet coverage areas. the REAL issue that people seem to have with Denuvo is the planned obsolescence of the system, explained above in other posts.
Look, I don't like Denuvo either, but there is no reason to spread false hoods about it.
You do not need a contsant internet access. It is possible that you will need internet access on some random day in order to start the game up, but you will never be kicked out of a game while you are playing it because of Denuvo.
Denuvo only has 1 file that it puts on your drive, it is an inert file that is nothing more than a key that is generated based on your hardware, it is about 2kb big. Sometime developers forget to put that in their uninstall process. it is normally in one of 3 places, in your %appdata% folder associated with the game, in the game directory itself, or in the same place save games are at. Even if that 1 file is forgotten, it really doesn;t matter since it really is nothing more than a text document with a key code in it, it actually doesn't do anything. Otherwise , Denuvo is contained entirely with in the game's executable.
