Having a well rounded team also helps. Make sure you have a good variety of weapons to chose from. Make sure you pick off as many enemies as you can before dealing with the main force. It's a good investment to level up your stealth weapons first for that reason.

Don't watch may of them or it will ruin the challenge of understanding and applying info gained from observations.
I am enjoying the game currently, but having no mini map and having to re-walk the numerous focus points on the map to find enemies that are no longer too difficult for me to kill is tedious
The thing is that the devs had a very distinct playstyle in mind and trying to play it differently will hit you hard (up to the impression that it's unfair). So agreed, that would be something to criticize. And I found the tutorial rather lacking because it doesn't prepare the player for the "real game" (aka bigger groups).
But if you have arranged yourself with the playstyle it's actually really lovely. Also keep in mind you don't have to kill everyone - just sneak through and collect upgrades first, then go back and dispose 'em more easily with your more powerful stuff... works wonders ;)
