How does the Auto-Feeder work?

I purchased the auto-feeder and loaded it up with enough carrots to fill in the available spots. However, it doesn't seem to be working - the number of carrots never dwindles, and the pigs never poop/seem to be fed, regardless of what time of day I pass by the pen.

What am I doing wrong?

It should launch food at 8am each morning. We will investigate.

Thanks! I'll check again at 8, I thought perhaps carrot were not the right type of food, but the animals do eat carrots when I hand-feed them.
