Watering stuff?

Is it just me, or does it not actually work? No indications that it does no matter what I do. I'm sure the question has been answered before, but I can't find said answers anywhere.

Are you using the watering can? You must plant the seed then water them. Wheat doesn't need watering.
When you use it, you should see a curved bar filling up, and dots telling you how many days until it grows.
