You can run three different kinds of shops, each has different gameplay, if you actually play the shops and not just hire someone to do everything for you.
The game doesn't feel incomplete without a tavern, at least for me.
I'd say definitely worth buying, especially if on discount if you are still contemplating.
The generational aspect wasn't working porperly back then, but now it is all good.
Outfits can change colours, hair too. No visible armours. Subtle change of cape shape with different hairstyles, at least for females. Not subtle enough for me to not skip a generation if I roll the hairstyle that comes with a cape shape that I don't like much.
There was a post not too long ago explaining why there is not going to be more differently shaped outfits any time soon, if I remember correctly.
It might look cozy at the first glance, but it is a fairy apocalypse, and I am not talking about the disney fairy type here, so expect generous amounts of not so cozy (at least comparing to most cosy games I played) moments (some are going pretty dark).
First responder is right to call this more of an RPG imo - the core of developing your stats while roleplaying is there.
Most things you can make have a minigame attached, and not just a random stuff - it actually feels like you are making a healing balm or baking a pie. Later you gain option to batch craft, so if you are not a fan of minigames, you can minimise their amount reasonably soon.
NPCs have personalities made out of three traits, three liked and three disliked items, premades have stories attached.
Most mechanics you engage usually have more in them, then you see right away on surface, so I's say it is pretty deep.
Not to mention you have literally nothing else to do with the crop BARLEY, besides selling it. It is used in absolutely zero recipes and is liked by zero original villagers. I'm honestly not sure if it is even liked by the random NPCs...
If ^^^THAT^^^ weren't in the game then there would really be no way to tell that it's an unfinished element of the game... and other than some mild balance issues (mostly 'OP late-game', like is an issue with lots of indie games), the game feels pretty complete. I definitely recommend it. It is currently one of my favorite games of all time.
That said... I do still wish the game were 'finished'. Some news on that front, at the very least... The lack of taverns and the lack of a final polishing passthrough is indeed noticeable. It has a very "indie" vibe to it, where you can just tell that they did Early Access and changed things up a few times and forgot to update some things.
Still, it is an amazing game and absolutely already worth the price. (I RARELY think games are worth their price these days!)
But...
- the need of sacrificing people every 10 years (random NPC will die, but there will be new born from time to time as well),
- you will need to exchange rare tool with your life span,
- you live max 50 years (let your child to inherit your game)...
If you feel it is okay for these, I think this is quite cozy game for you
PROS:
- humor (also some item-descriptions got me laughing out loud)
- story
- gameloop is a lot of fun and interesting
CONS:
- generational content isn't that good, so please do not buy too many items for your lifetime, did try it for one game and in the end all the people were gone and everything in this game got pretty weird (also we can't see the storylines of the characters anymore). maybe some people like it, but I'd definetly suggest to not buy too much with your age :) maybe the developers are going to change it a little one day :)
Otherwise I would say I really enjoyed playing kynseed. It's a fun game.
