The double bed is an addition, not a replacement.
i really hope the devs will allow players to at the very least store those beds, if not selling them, in some update not too far into the future.
the space within the house is kinda limited-ish, and the walls cover up anything right behind them, so those three beds takes up way more space than one might want, if one isn't planning on storking for a while ._.'
It also helps a lot since you can send family on expeditions 24/7 netting you free loot essentially, which is ultra helpful for near 0 effort.
Nothing on the partner matters aside of the trait they have.
As for trait - I recommend some flat stat boost. My most recommended min max are Explorer/Resilience. Also assassin but quite sure you can only get this one randomly, no one has it by default.
Once you marry and get 3 children - decide who will be your 'heir' and train stats you want.
My favorite stats are the ones that help with combat the most since combat is ultimately the only remotely challenging content - Str, Accuracy, Stamina.
Intelligence is also super important early on while you are still leveling as it's a solid boost to leveling speed of.. essentially everything you do. I would say 2nd generation child should have solid intelligence but after that it's mostly a trash stat.
Finish first year after spending ~15 years worth of QoL items. Then next year you can set schedule for your children and buy up remaining QoL instantly after that to pass on the seed.
Best QoL items are certainly the Toilet teleporter thing and Home teleporter, try to ensure you get those. Pool of items offered by fairweather changes weekly.
Your biggest goal of first year is finishing all goals of kynseed as those are permanent rewards.
Your initial character is really weak stat wise and has no talents. It should be used to buy all kinds of quality of life permanent items from Mr Fairweather and passing on Kynseed right after that.
Almost everything is kept including the stuff from Fairweather, the stuff from Kynseed, all items, all levels and such.
The only things you lose are basically your original character and it's 'base' stats(all permanent upgrades are kept). But your 1st child will nearly guaranteed have much better stats than your main one since you got to choose from them.
I dunno man; i play the game i want to;
i've only played for one year in-game thus far and feel like i've done a lot of the stuff already, just gotta raise rep and beat up some more woods,
the thing was that i didn't want to start raising a family for maybe another 2-4 years in-game time when my character'd be around 25, so the beds are just in the way for my savvy designer-brain,
2-4 years without family is basically skipping family for entire game. A mechanic which takes A LOT of time to grow.
Family is literally 99.9% passive gameplay(simply do anything else) - you literally need to do nearly nothing aside of spending time like you are doing right now.
The only arguably more important mechanic is shops which you need to mass purchase starting with apothecaries which bring by far biggest cash with which you can support your weapon and good shops.(weapons are kinda mostly 0 profit, goods shop is mostly negative profit)
First kid becomes multifold better at essentially everything while having all the QoL gotten via your 1st character via Fairweather... and has higher leveling speed due to having much higher intelligence.
Doing family ASAP is by far most important tip in this game.
Everything in family is really slow progression that only progresses as you play the rest of the game. Any time you spend without family is basically pointlessly wasted time.

Like by far best starter item being crit chance as it improves the only remotely challenging content. Nothing else comes close in value and you can't get it ever again without starting anew.
By far best starting stat choice is intelligence(exp gain) followed by somewhat even value from Accuracy/STR/stamina.
It's not as bad as missing out on an item since those stats seem to be temporary however.
Another example is family mechanic which NEEDS to be your first priority you rush as soon as marriage is available.
Problem is - game is kinda.... both long and short. It technically is long, but if you stall family - you will find out you won't have enough time to actually profit/make use of family.
First of all you NEED to complete a year to actually get your children grow. You have exclusion of adopting or simply passing kynseed directly, but that's the only alternative.
Then you also need to buy enough fairweather QoL items to actually have comfortable playthrough. Not doing the above is mostly punishing yourself.
Family is mostly all about waiting aside of that. They just mostly passively do things as you schedule them. Or gather items for you for free if you send them into locations.
They can easily get you some annoying to get fishes and some otherwise annoying plants like moss.
Another big example is Shops. If you get lucky and buy apothecary as your first shop - you will be flowing in nigh infinite cash before long regardless of whom you hire there as long as you stock it with at least something.
If your first shop is goods shop - even if you put loads of effort you will wonder why would one even bother with shops with how hard it is to make profit off it.
Game is fun, but poorly balanced once you plan enough to figure things out basically.
Loads of mechanics/initial ideas seem to have been abandoned along the way of development too.
